Yup , i~m in awe that the metal splines wore out against the plasic ! It also came to me that the what i thought was this carbon substance , seems to have been JB Weld type product that someone put on there as a fix that has finally broke down. Bought this washer at a appliance store-used ...

Ok , The splines on the top of the drive are all but gone and the splines on the inner top of the agitator are completely gone !!!

After 3/4 of a can of penetrating oil , ran out , i used windex! and soon she popped off !!! Now what was u saying about splines , which ones do i need to worry about being bad ?

i sprayed some penetrating oil on , and have been working slowly off it is sliding up slowly . Whatever this carbonlike stuff is, i think is my problem, if i can get the agitator off and clean it up , i think it will work .

actually i can pull it up about a half inch , then it gets stuck

the agitator will move up about a inch, will not come off, i am pulling hard

it seemed to me that the screw was the problem ? the agitator seemed to want to work but the screw was slipping, like the inside threads are stripped? the black stuff appears to be carbon? also now the bottom of the agitator is`nt pulling out

The screw is the replacement, it is not stripped , i popped the top corkscrew off, that and the parts? look fine , i think the black debri is from the old rubber washer that goes with the screw , how do i get the bottom of the agitator off, seems to have some play , like a bearing is out?

Belt drive, motor is working , to me everything seems to be working? i turn the agitator by hand . i dont really understand the screw rubber washer. the screw turns, but slips on the rubber washer ? is that the only part on top , is the screw and washer ?

Hi Everyone ! The rubber washer was shreaded on the top screw of the agitator , got a new/used one, still does`nt work . guess there is something wrong down in the agitator, can`t see any way of getting the agitator off ? How do you get the agitator off . Thank you , Ted
