    24 Hour Ham Recipe

mmmm, slow cooked ham.. My family always makes what they call in this area a "lard can ham" ( apparently years ago when large stock pots were not so affordable, the ham would be cooked in a large metal lard can). Take a whole country ham, scrub it with a stiff brush in cold running water to...

CHECK THIS OUT! "Retro Washer / Combo":

It's a twin tub. Re-badged Panasonic I think. Very similar to the one I had when I got my first place, which was badged as a Norge. If it is the same, the impeller will be in the bottom, in the corner of the wash tub instead of in the center. Lots of splashy wash time drama, and a...

Spotted! Tide Simply Clean and Fresh!

loving it! Well, even though I had a few All pods left, I bought a bottle of Tide Simply Clean, in the refreshing breeze scent. As others have noted, it was on an end cap at my local Walmart, away from the rest of the Tide products. Price was $6.97 for a 100 ounce bottle that lists 64 loads on...

    Vintage Stove - 30" wide'flush front' 220v 1957 GE stove/oven/range in 'Butter Yellow' - $340 (cupe

sigh.. The good stuff is always so far away. I love that buttery yellow of GE's, but you never see it in this area. Which is odd since GE was manufactured in louisville. Guess it wasn't as popular as plain white in this are.

    How about a Crosley Shelvador?

I remember that!! I remember seeing a little plaque that said that in someone's kitchen when I was a little kid, I just don't remember who. Sadly it is true..

    How about a Crosley Shelvador?

a revolting thought.. But probably true. My grandmother and aunts would have had a stroke at the thought of that sort of slovenly waste. My grandmother grew up extremely poor, and even though we weren't poor, she never forgot what it was to be hungry, and made sure we all knew the value of...

VINTAGE 1960'S DWYER FULL KITCHEN PORCELAIN NEAR MINT - $2000 (north phoenix)

2000 for a kitchenette?!! A bit ridiculous if you ask me. For one thing, this isn't a full kitchen of the type GE made, it's a cheaply built kitchenette for efficiency apartments and motels. 500 seems closer to reality, and that would be if it was all disconnected and ready to move. Even at...

    How about a Crosley Shelvador?

crisper drawers.. I have yet to figure out why on so many vintage fridges, even ones otherwise totally complete and in use, the blasted crisper drawers are missing 90% of the time. In later models that had plastic drawers I suppose you could write it off the them somehow getting cracked or...

    my new ge refrigerator

Good trick for rust.. A friend told me years ago, use fine steel wool ( the kind sold near sandpaper in stores) and KY Jelly to scrub rust away without scratching or damaging the finish on items. Works a treat.

    SUN laundry detergent

It's ok.. So long as you don't have truly dirty clothes. It doesn't have that oh so important enzyme cocktail available in upper shelf detergents, just surfactants and scent. It will clean office clothes, refresh musty items, but don't count on it for heavy duty cleaning. And stain removal...

Anyone need a (Free) Tide Zap Cap?

Thanks Michael! ! Just filled in the form for mine!

Spotted! Tide Simply Clean and Fresh!

downy ball.. Launderess, you are a genius as always! I looked, and the dispenser balls available in the UK in the 90s do look like a downy ball without the cap/plunger assembly. I will get one, and remove the cap thingy. Thank you so much!! I can't believe how silly I feel for not...

5 Things You Should Buy At Estate Sales (And what To Skip)

well.... I suppose the article may be good advice for some, but my entire home has been outfitted from estate sales, with the odd flea market or thrift store item tossed in here and there. All my appliances, large and small, estate sale items, except for the 2nd hand store stove and the 2nd...

    Nice PHILCO range..

I smell disaster.. I think I understand about the griddle now, though it sounds like one of those horrible appliances that's either off or on, no thermostat, like early electric irons. However, the broil under glass concept sounds like a disaster. As far as I know, even vintage Pyrex came...

jiffy griddle? I've never heard of this accessory? What's the story on it?

Is firm ice cream possible in a vintage fridge?

What I really need... Is the custom built stove of my dreams, lol. My grandmother and birth mother were slightly shorter than me, and it wasn't until I started cooking that I realized why my birth mother wore either 3 or 4 inch heals in the kitchen and my grandmother wore 2 inch pumps...

Is firm ice cream possible in a vintage fridge?

Actually I'm happy with the brown GE as a daily driver. It's only issue has been soft ice cream, and I can deal with that, now that I understand the issue. It's nice to have a fridge that I can actually reach all parts of without a step stool, lol. At 5 foot 3 inches tall, I have the polar...

Is firm ice cream possible in a vintage fridge?

I didn't realize the earlier combos were designed differently. It sounds like the early design was far better. I wonder why they cheaped out in the later designs, eliminating the drain hole and exposing the coils...

Spotted! Tide Simply Clean and Fresh!

enzymes? I couldn't find Tide simply clean and fresh anywhere on the Tide website, nor anywhere on the Web except for a few store adverts. Does anyone know if it contains enzymes? Tides potent cocktail of enzymes is its main selling point in my opinion.[this post was last edited: 1/31/2014-20:31]

Is firm ice cream possible in a vintage fridge?

ge combo If it's anything like the 1958 Hotpoint combo I used to have, I wouldn't want one unless I was desperate and there was no other fridge available. The top shelf of the refrigerator section was practically useless, as anything placed near the frosty coils would freeze solid. Frozen and...
