Is firm ice cream possible in a vintage fridge?

The majority has it.. After reading everyone's responses here, and searching for some vintage fridge manuals online, it seems I need 2 things, a set of metal ice trays, and a metal freezer container with lid for ice cream, and even then ice cream isn't supposed to be stored long term in these...

Spotted! Tide Simply Clean and Fresh!

calling Launderess... Oh Launderess dear, I need some thoroughly good advice.. I would love to try this out, but.. My haier front load machine's dispenser drawer is quite lacking when it comes to liquid detergent. The original manual stated powder detergent only, newer downloads of said...

high heat engine paint for a kitchen stove?

scratching.. That's my main fear, that the paint will scratch, especially when hot, or peel, or oxidize around the burners. I figure if the porcelain was thoroughly roughed up and primed peeling wouldn't be an issue, but it would also mean there was no going back if the paint proved to be a...

high heat engine paint for a kitchen stove?

My friend whose grandmother gave me her vintage GE fridge came over today, we were talking about painting the fridge, and I mentioned I supposed to would end up painting it just plain white to match the stove, even though I would love a pop of color in the kitchen, since the cabinets are due to...

    Sunbeam Mixmaster.

How dangerous are you feeling? I wouldn't recommend this unless it is done catefully, and I wouldn't do it with both beaters in, but if a person put in only one beater, switched the mixer to low, and gave it a nudge, there's a pretty good shot it will start turning, probably slow at first and...

Is firm ice cream possible in a vintage fridge?

Ok, I still love the GE, but I cannot get it to keep ice cream firm Everything else is frozen solid, but ice cream is soft serve and Popsicles are slushy. Any way for a frozen dessert addict to get his daily fix? Would putting the ice cream in a metal container help?

    Avocado GE Pushbutton Range

perhaps perhaps a cheap builders model.. I had friends who had this exact stove in an ancient mobile home they rented as newlyweds. It was a perfectly adequate range, it worked just as smoothly as GE's more expensive offerings, but I have to say, it's a pretty bare bones looking range, and the...

    Crown double oven..

Corning ware My grandmother had a 4 piece set of the casseroles, but we never used them on the stovetop and they got broken one by one over the years, but they were great for use in the oven. I use a vintage 3 piece set of nesting round Pyrex casseroles now, I find the round shape to cook a...

    Crown double oven..

I still prefer enamel on steel myself.. It takes heaps of abuse, it's non reactive, light weight, the handles are a solid piece of the pan instead of flimsy plastic held on with a screw, and it's still extremely affordable compared to other options.

    Crown double oven..

Not revere... Tom said Ecko copper bottom, not Revere. While it looks nearly identical, there is a difference in performance. My grandmother on my birth mother's side had some peices of both Revere and of Ecko, she preferred the Ecko, I preferred the Revere. Preferable to both for me...

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

The old girl is awesome! The fridge is chugging along perfectly, nearly silently, holding steady at 35 degrees with control set to normal, which is the halfway point of the settings. This morning I sorted out the last of the frozen items which wouldn't fit in the freezing compartment of...

Report states we are all covered in s---- fecal matter....

well, in our grandmother's time... Our grandmothers lived in mortal fear of germs, this isn't a new thing. In the past the idea of letting a germ sneak past your cleaning methods and infect your family was horrifying to any housewife, women who didn't keep their home spotless were considered...

    Clean a Deep Fryer

honestly? I tried a variety of electric deep fryers, and finally found that for me, much like electric skillets, they just aren't worth the hassle, and it's easier to clean a regular pot or pan. Any deep pot will work as a deep fryer, a heavy pot is great though, and if you aren't good at...

I've never seen a stove anything like this..

It's not coming here.. Lol, I was pretty sure it wasn't coming here when I saw it, due to the small oven more than anything. When I use an oven I USE an oven. I wanted to post it here, partly to see if anyone else had seen something so strange, and partly to make sure everyone agreed that...

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

Sandy.. I know the Wizard is rare, and the GE common, but in this are anything as old as the GE is actually pretty rare, thanks to nearly every family having one person in it who hauls scrap metal. This fridge nearly met the same fate, which is why it was offered to me. As I said earlier, the...

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

Last picture, I promise.. Just so no one thinks I cheated, here are the few items I tossed when emptying the Wizard and filling the GE. I rather like the GE. It got cool fast, and it's basically silent. Still not sure what to do about the lower freezer capacity.

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

But about freezers.. Here is the now nearly empty wizard, all that is left are a few items in the freezer. I do have a 1940's ge chest freezer stored under a tablecloth in one of the bedrooms, so I could press it into service, or I could just get used to using and purchasing fewer frozen...

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

I can't believe how much fit in the GE! I truly thought there would be a major difference in the capacity, (of course there is a difference in freezer capacity, but..). Everything in the refrigerator portion of the Wizard fit in the GE with ease.

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

rather embarrassing money shot.. The wizard is in the dining area while I decide what to do about it, but here is a money shot of it, before I started moving food to the GE.

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

Next to the wizard.. Actually, though I do love the Wizard, it would be the more likely candidate for a garage or basement fridge, since the compressor is noisy while running, and rattles every time it kicks on or off, as well as rattling when the fridge is opened or closed. It needs a new...
