I'm impressed with this Speed Queen! I like the classic design, and like the wobbly tub during spin, like the old GE's used to do.
I've got about a half notion to get rid of my 2008 GE washer/dryer set for a set of Speed Queens like this one.

Interesting
That's really neat! I had no idea they had a contraption such as this. Plus, it's very nice to see a box saying "Made In Montreal, Canada" instead of China for a change! Thanks for sharing.

Have it repaired
Don't junk it! You'll be sorry later on, if you let the scrap yard have it. The transmission went out of our old GE filter-flo, too. I let my dad throw it away. Boy I could just kick myself for that!
As stated above, it may be costly to repair the transmission, but it's worth...
Robyn,
I understand your concern about the old 1952 house your friend is putting up for sale. Even houses built back then, and earlier were built so much better and had so much better quality in them, too. I wasn't around back in those times, but I know they didn't have nail guns and the kinds...
Gordon,
Makes you kick yourself 1,000 times, doesn't it? I know how you feel. If ONLY we could go back and redo it. I guess you learn as you go. That GE was a "top of the line" washer, too, mid 80's model, chrome push buttons, 3 chrome knobs in the middle, it was hooked up in their kitchen last...
Bad news. I heard back today from the people that had the old GE filter-flo washing machine that I wanted to buy if they would sell it.
They've done junked all of their old appliances or donated a few of them that were in their house. I sure hope they donated that old GE, than throw it away...
Ice storm
We're in an Ice Storm Warning here in Central Indiana. We have about .25 to .30 accumulation of ice on trees, powerlines and the ground right now, I can't even walk from the porch to the driveway, it's so slick.
Total ice accumulations here in Central Indiana by later tonight of 1...
Fascinated
Hi David,
I'm 32 years old and wasn't around in the 1950's, 1960's and most of the 70's, and I'm not only fascinated by older washing machines of that time era, but also the other appliances, as well.
A lot of times, I feel like I came, "one generation too late." I really...
Sea of white
Last time I went to Lowe's, I went through the washing machines. They all look the same to me from a distance and even up close, a sea of white. White cabinets, (a few almond, or bisque, or whatever they call that) white control panels, white plastic knobs, and some, even white...
Considering the powder detergent and screens in the fill hos
I may try the powder detergent and see if it cleans better. I use a traditional top loader washer, with the tall agitator. It's a 2007 or 2008 GE.
There is no setting on the washer for a warm rinse like older models. It's strictly...
Nice collection you have, Ken. I'm going to keep looking and see if I can find one that's got more goodies on the control panel. Thanks again, I really appreciate it. Stay warm up there, we're in for a major snow/ice storm this week, they say.

Maybe I jinxed you
I just joined about 2 months ago, so maybe I jinxed you when I joined. LOL I don't ever want to see the site shut down, I love it here! I've learned so much already, and everybody's so friendly.

I've been using Coldwater Tide, the 52 Load bottle, it's gone up to around $12 a bottle now, pretty pricey. It creates absolutely no suds at all, not bubble number one shows up, but it does create milky water.
The clothes seem to come out fairly clean, not great though. Is there any brand out...
I'll look forward to seeing the pics this weekend then. I appreciate it. How about your other GE in white and your almond Hotpoint? Are they in pretty good shape?
goatfarmer,
A matched set would be great. Are they in good working order, no problems with them? I'm south of Indianapolis, near Martinsville.
Do you have photos of them? [email protected] is my email. Hope to hear more from you.
Hey guys, I was wondering if you could please keep your eyes open for a good, used GE filter-flo washing machine. By now, a lot of you know I like those, and I'd be tickled to get ahold of one again. The closer to Indiana, the better.
I've been watching Craigslist, but all I can find are the...
That happened in the Match Game '78 year, I believe.
I think what they did was, they used a Sony ECM-50 lavalier mic, fed the wiring through the tube, and spot welded the capsule to the solid tube that measured about the same length as the genuine ECM-51 mic, fully telescoped. It was slightly...
