Window fans, do you use them in the cooler months?

That's interesting about the hole for the original cabinet. About the same time, I tore out my bathroom in this 1952 house. My parents had updated the room not long after we moved here in late Summer, 1957. One of the things they did was remove the recessed medicine cabinet, and replace with a...

    I turned on my Furnace

I heard there were snow ❄️ flurries in the northern part of the state, and lots of areas with frost.

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-four

Heinz probably was the best ketchup at that time. Del Monte was also good, as was Campbell's and Hunt's. The rest seemed pretty bad, though. I remember my mom would get some brand called Tip-Top, and it was thin and unflavorful. I hadn't heard anything about Tip-Top for years, but it looks...

    I turned on my Furnace

You must be a Yankee! It's a name for coin laundry, used mainly in the deep south. My mom always called it that, as she was from Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

We had the Slo-Cooker Plus as shown. I would sometimes cook hot dogs on the lower part. Also had the Party Perk, except in Avocado.

Window fans, do you use them in the cooler months?

Is your house masonry veneer on the outside? If so, a steel lintel is common to support the brick or stone above. I've rarely seen steel beams used over openings in wood frame construction, though I recently noticed a commercial building under construction that steel beams were installed above...

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

I have a picture of me at about one year old, getting a bath in the Youngstown double bowl sink with drainboards. This was at the old house we lived in until I was two.

    I turned on my Furnace

I've not turned on any heat, but it's been getting down to the upper 40s to low 50s at night for the last 10 days or so. I was kind of cold a couple nights, so washed my thermal long underwear, and started wearing it. My blanket needs washed, and I've not wanted to take it to the washateria yet.

    Whirlpool Washer WTW4816FW3

Yes, the store started in the late 1940s in their home on Red Bank Rd. Later on, Mr. and Mrs. Swallen lived above the Wooster Pike store where appliances were sold. One of my neighbors worked at Strietmann, and knew them, as he bought numerous items from them. Even though we lived 20+ miles...

    Whirlpool Washer WTW4816FW3

Swallen's - now that's a store I miss! They had just about anything. I loved to go there. If your washer was purchased there in 1960, that would have been at the Wooster Pike store. I remember going there with my parents about that time to buy a Westinghouse dehumidifier, that lasted until well...

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

It would be more wasteful if they made me sick, or spoiled my appetite for the other food I was having.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

As for cellphone use, one of the reasons I stopped associating with a certain friend was his obsession with looking at it. We would go to a restaurant, and he would have it out over half the time. Between that and his obsessive hate for someone he didn't even know, I had enough, so no longer see...

What’s your favourite washing machine cleaner?

I don't understand why anyone needs a special cleaner for either dishwashers or clothes washers. My mom had two front load, and one top load washers. We also had two dish machines. None of them got nasty odors. Then again, she used good detergent and hot water, and didn't close them until they...

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

I almost always eat all my food, unless I'm feeling ill. Occasionally I'll buy something that sounds good, but when I begin eating it, am not pleased with the taste. I recently got a can of baked beans that I thought I'd like, but the flavor was not something I cared for. I ate part of them, and...

    BLANCHARD BUILT-IN DISHWASHER

Unfortunately, the original post is from 2012, and the last time Mike P. was on here was in January 2014.

    Kenmore Toast set.

My neighbor Thelma got a 24" set in the Toast color about 1985-1986. The dryer was electric. These replaced the late 1960s GE Versatronic set. By that time, their youngest daughter was a senior in high school, and the older two were married.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

My first cellphone was a Kyocera (on Verizon), bought about 2005. I really liked it, and even named it Kyo. I rarely used it at home, as I had a landline, but was nice when I was out somewhere, and needed to make a call.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

I've noticed that the neighbor without a dishwasher has Pyrex that is over 60 years old, and still looks new - no fading of the color finish. The same with her Regal cookware. Another neighbor (now deceased) who also did hand dishwashing had new looking 50 year old Pyrex and Ekco Flint cookware...

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

It was a GE from around 1965. Not sure what was done with it, as that was over 25 years ago. I think it was out of order. Cabinets went to basement and garage.

KELVINATOR KITCHEN CABINETS - $1000 (Kenosha)

There are lots of houses in this area that had, and still have, Scheirich cabinets. A local dealer sold them for many years. They were a good line of "stock" cabinetry, but Kemper was their better line. Custom cabinets from Mutschler Brothers or Coppes-Napanee were considered as top of the line.
