I have a feeling that this is the base for a bain-marie (double boiler) that originally had a ceramic insert above the copper pot.   But what do I know... 

Although I am not very active here (or anywhere for that matter), I'd still be willing to help pay for and maintain the documentation and restoration archives that are stored on this site.  It's an excellent resource for anyone who needs detailed information about vintage appliance restorations...

Wow - the glass cooktop is in fantastic condition!  I had a Bélanger (made by Tappan) corning cooktop range once and it was fine until I started using it.... LOL 

The model with the 'Silver Shower' too.  I've got its Canadian cousin!  

Interesting!  It's definitely an early one - the half-arm wash arm at the rear of the tub to ensure the upper rack contents got at least some washing is not present in this dishwasher.  I've got a 1965 version, a Kenmore 600 that has the half-arm, so I'd be very curious as to what year the one...

What Bob said.  I've got an ancient Bélanger microwave oven (made by Tappan for the Canadian appliance company) that also has the browner unit.      That glass tray is missing from mine, though, dammit.... 

I am reluctant to offer advice anymore, but if the outlet is checking out OK, showing 120 and 240 volts with a multimeter, I'd say look for a broken connection at the terminal block, timer, or at the heating element itself.  Connections can go bad over time....   If they look good, then test the...

Christopher, I learned a great deal from restorations of my 57 GE set - I hope I can help. I saw that the thermal fuse from your dryer was missing - I have the original and a substitute part number back in Canada but I will post it for you as soon as I can. In Latvia to finally get my late...

I have the service manuals for the washer and dryer. I am currently traveling in Latvia however and won't be able to scan or send anything until I return to Canada on September 15th.

But the visit came to an end and they had to go back...    After one last load of laundry in the 57 GE Filter-Flo, of course!     It was great visit and I look forward to heading back to Ohio again sometime soon.  

We also took a road trip to visit with PhilR to see his awesome mid-century house and collection.     We even got to take a spin in Phil's beloved 65 Buick Wildcat! 

We did a tour of the thrift stores in Coaticook and Magog, as is Wash-In tradition.  

The 54 James SweepFlow dishwasher made for a fun way to 'do the dishes'.  This is a great dinner party dishwasher, 'cause you can actually see inside it! 

There was plenty of cooking done with vintage appliances from my hoard...er, collection.  

The GE Combo in the WonderKitchen is giving me attitude (again), so the visitors had to settle for a demo of the 58 Philco-Bendix Duomatic.  

The 66 Inglis Sterling was on its best behaviour, also.  

Fortunately my Canadian 57 GE Filter-Flo behaved!  So did the matching dryer.
