    Whirlpool / Kenmore Washer Production 1969 - 16mm

When Whirlpool was Whirlpool, before they started cutting corners in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

The Maytag Neptune TL: The Washer that Caused Maytag’s Death

Since I’ve been on here for over 8 years, I honestly think it’s time for the DL forum index to go bye bye. Even though it’s a private forum index, it has a tendency of ‘overflowing’ onto the rest of the site.

1956 Kenmore Cycla Fabric washer restore completed

Speaking of timers John, do you happen to have any for a Mark 18 from the late 70’s? Just wondering since I’m thinking about trying to acquire another timer in the future just in case the one that’s on there now ends giving up the ghost in the future. Been there done that with timer issues for 2...

GE Filterflo? First Steps to start

$200 is too much for something with not a lot of options. If it was a higher end machine with a matching dryer, I can see that. But just the washer with not many options? A bit too steep.

When was Whirlpool ahead of their time?

There’s been some debate as to when Whirlpool started to decline, but I’d argue the decline began once they went to the direct drives. The direct drives have (and still have) issues with the transmission and slipping into spin when it’s cold or the neutral drain pack fails, the belt drives could...

    For Robert/Unimatic1140

Awhile back, Robert asked about the pieces I fabricated for my Whirlpool in a thread on the Shoppers Square forum index. These are the pieces I fabricated out out plumbing parts for the water level/pressure switch along with the lint filter/automatic dispensers. Surprisingly, the inner tub/wash...

1968 Kenmore has stopped spinning at all

I imagine the bearings are tight, if you skip to the 2:12 mark, you’ll see a pinhole through the center post. I tried to politely explain that you might as well go through everything while it’s out of service, but got a response with “There’s the expensive way that will work, there’s the cheap...

An Interesting Test with a New Meter

Currently using my ‘63 Whirlpool belt drive which has been outfitted with the late Mark 18 console from 1977. The matching dryer has the dual wattage element as well which is selected by the ‘speed selector’. The console that came off the dryer that was parted out had a dual tumbling speed...

An Interesting Test with a New Meter

This may sound kind of odd to some, but don’t mind something that spins a little slower. I’ve noticed that items like towels seem to feel softer, same with my clothes as well. My guess is the extra moisture being evaporated makes items a bit more ‘fluffy’ and soft to the touch. A heat pump my...

REPOST - When did GE start to go bad?

Honestly, GE never seem to ‘get it’ with laundry appliances and such. Sure they were made with quality, but had flaws that were never worked out from the beginning. For example, the GE FF washers essentially were a solid tub machine with a perforated tub put into place, that may have saved on...

1968 Kenmore has stopped spinning at all

I think it may possibly be ready for a rebuild at this point. In the one video that was uploaded to YouTube, there was a rust hole in the center post and various other pinholes on the outer tub. Since I’ve dealt with issues on my Whirlpool (been there, done that), it’s best to go through...

    DD washer has trouble spinning

Could be the motor that’s acting up, or possibly an issue with the transmission and clutch. More than likely the clutch is grabbing a bit to much which could be the cause for the motor to be cutting in and out.

    Trouble in Lady Kenmore land

Whoops, forgot about the temperature selector switch, that could be a source of the problem as well. More than likely it’s the low heat cycling thermostat which has failed causing a no heat condition on the low heat temperature setting.

    Trouble in Lady Kenmore land

The older Whirlpool/Kenmore 29” top filter dryers have multiple thermostats for the various temperatures. Later on, they went to a bias thermostat which has it’s own internal heater (two resistors) to trick it into thinking it’s hotter than it actually is for the lower and medium temperature...

    Trouble in Lady Kenmore land

Not extremely versed with the Lady Kenmore dryers of this era, but my guess is it could be the low heat thermostat which has failed. If it heats up perfectly fine on all the other temperatures, could mean that particular cycling thermostat has failed.

    The Maytag Dependable Cars

The outer tub on the Whirlpool belt drives was a similar gage of metal, though what ended up causing those out tubs to rot out on those machines was either being heavy handed with bleach, not using enough detergent, cold water washes, or leaving the lid closed after every wash. I was told by...

The most stylish "Cadillac of washers"?

Honestly, anything from Hyundai or Kia isn’t all that good, will be lucky to make it to 100,000 miles since they have had major engine problems, some had to be replaced between 50,000 and 75,000 miles. While GM isn’t entirely perfect, at least they make something decent that will last awhile...

The most stylish "Cadillac of washers"?

Still not convinced about GM or Chrysler. Made this back in 2023 as a way to roast GM, mainly Chevrolet

    Simple Modern Dryer

Thermostatic auto dry literally accomplishes the same thing. Moisture sensors can get real screwy at times.

    Simple Modern Dryer

I agree with Bob, not too crazy about BOL appliances. Sometimes, I think BOL appliances end up being more expensive since you’ll end up upgrading to something higher end and more expensive in a few years time. Might as well invest up front in something with flexibility and options.
