    Induction gets even cheaper

OK, a flat bottom wok isn't really a wok, IMHO.   The idea of a wok friendly induction burner is intriguing. Are there any links one can check out? And what about different size woks? Might be a problem.

    Induction gets even cheaper

I wonder if an induction stove would work with a wok.   I like cooking with gas.   I do not enjoy cooking with an electric element.   Induction, with the right cookware, might be OK.   Another wrinkle with electric cooking: Currently I'm getting a decent enough discount on electricity...

    Real estate mess

Well, the stock market crashed in, I think, 2021, not 2020. Home values here in California slumped a little last year as well, but not a lot. Maybe 10%.

    Real estate mess

Your housing prices in Florida are still less than they are here in California.   The value of my home has gone up about four times what I paid for it 26 years ago.   Good luck.

    personal electric vehicles

More info on lithium ion battery fires:   <blockquote> If you’re shopping for an e-bike, look for one with a battery that has a UL Certified label. Then follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storage, and always use the power adapter and cord supplied by the manufacturer.  ...

    personal electric vehicles

In the meantime, I found this informative article on lithium ion battery fires and safety.   Excerpt:   <blockquote> Recently, there have been a few incidents of fires caused by Lithium-Ion batteries. On January 8, 2019, spontaneous combustion of a lithium-ion battery caused the fire to...

    personal electric vehicles

I'd be a little cautious with electric bikes. I've read recently that some have defective lithium ion batteries that can malfunction and start a blaze that cannot easily be extinguished. Perhaps getting an electric bike from a reputable reseller or store is the best strategy.   If I find the...

    Roofing materials (was Sarah's house)

I've heard about the penny trick. It makes zero sense.   Not sure, but I think metal roofing is illegal around here, at least on residential structures.

    Roofing materials (was Sarah's house)

My house, which I bought in 1997, was built in 1941. It is the only house on this block that still has a wood shake roof. A friend recently informed me that due to fire danger, wood shake roofing isn't put on any more. I don't know if that's true, but when I replace this roof, it will probably...

1950s caloric 40" double oven help

I seem to remember a combo wood/gas stove in one our SF rentals back in the 1960's. However we only burned newspaper in it, not wood. Don't know exactly why.

Oops, I said the doors swung out. I meant to say the shelves swung out.   Sorry!

    Sarah's House discouragement

Chris/Gizmo,   I have been thinking about installing solar panels here.   One problem is the main house probably will need a new roof  in four to five years. Not sure, have to have it inspected.   There is also a 2 car garage, and a 1000 sq ft workshop. I planted shade trees along the west...

    Sarah's House discouragement

Looks very comfy.   Couple questions:   1) How did you affix the solar panels to the metal roofing?   2) What is the tan exterior of the house made from?

    Proctor-Silex drip coffee maker

Googled it:   <blockquote> <h2 id="Rubbing-Alcohol">1. Rubbing Alcohol</h2> Rubbing alcohol can be used to clean coffee, tea, tomato sauce and tomato paste, juice and soda stains, and discoloration caused by most types of food dyes. Usually, the discoloration can be removed if you rinse the...

    Meet Anna

OK, so the range I used in a rental unit for a few years must have been electric. Cause that control panel looks VERY familiar.

    Meet Anna

Congrats!   Anna looks very familiar. I *think* I had a similar stove at one of the rentals I lived in more than 25 years ago. Did GE make a similar range in gas? Either that, or the one I remember was electric.

    Bosch vs Vtg KitchenAid Dishwasher

I found my Bosch dishwasher to be very easy to work on. And I had no problem finding a replacement part (pump).

    Getting odors out of clothing

What occured to me is to try ordinary baking soda. I've never tried it, but I *think* it would help reduce aromas without causing fabric damage. I tend not to use borax because boron - the key ingredient in borax - can be toxic.   <blockquote> <h1 class="post-title">8 Ways to Use Baking Soda...

    Bosch vs Vtg KitchenAid Dishwasher

Well, although my Bosch dishwasher has an internal heater, after trying some runs without running the hot water first, I've gone back to running the hot water in the nearby sink first to minimize the use of electricity. Cause the hot water heater is gas and generally speaking gas is cheaper to...
