    Gas refrigerators....

'Money Shot' I still have no idea where that term originates... Only ever seen it on this forum. DT

    Gas refrigerators....

PhilR As promised (Reply#23), here's pictures of my Wattmeters. A pair of multi-range (50-5000W, subject to limit of 1000V and 20A) Wattmeters by H.W. Sullivan of Kent, England. I have included the cheap Chinese digital just for comparison ;-) All best Dave T

    Electric Blankets

Electric Blankets Used them for years, though only for pre-heating. Advantage... Warm, snuggly feet when getting into bed. Disadvantage... Trying to sleep on top of a lumpy, wiry thing. I have tried putting a pad on top of the Electric Blanket for comfort, but then the preheat time gets WAY...

1960's white goods hire needed for "Endeavour II"

Help...... Come on, folks..... Surely someone can help these people??? I have an English Electric tumble dryer, which I 'think' is '60s vintage. It's not in 'as new' condition, but could probably be 'spruced up' for the role. Unfortunately, it's a big job to get at it, which is why I've not...

    New microwave: inverter?

Thanks, Kb0nes Thanks for the link (reply#27). I have read through the PDF and will consider contacting the author directly, since he seems to have encountered the same problem which I would anticipate... That of modifying the circuit to provide a largely constant voltage. I'll let you all...

    Linoleum countertops?

Linoleum work surfaces Not a kitchen environment of course, but ALL British G.P.O. workbenches were 'linoleum' topped. Yes, they can be (and were!!) damaged by sharp edges, but are generally forgiving of quite a lot of use and abuse, and don't damage 'dropped' items (Vacuum tubes included). Oil...

    The Future Cleaned My House

Scary!! I don't think this would suit my house at all..... I doubt that the flying robots would A) have enough space to take off or land B) have enough fuel/charge to tackle the dust between and around the carefully stacked 'stuff' which abounds everywhere. And, yes.... I can do without a...

    New microwave: inverter?

Microwave Inverter HV Supply Earlier today I found the Inverter Supply which I mentioned in reply #12. It appears to be identical to the one which Kb0nes repaired some time ago (link in reply#15). Does anyone have any schematics for the Inverter or control panel?? Is it voltage controlled or...

Repair of a Panasonic Inverter Microwave

Panasonic Inverter I have just discovered that I have one of these supplies recovered from a damaged oven. Does anyone have a schematic, or information on the input (control) connections to this unit?? Many thanks Dave T

    Servicability

I finally found this image (hiding on an old drive), which I would like to share with you all. It pretty much sums up my attitude to most (if not all) manufactured goods. Please note that I do not own this image, but understand that it is 'Public Domain' and 'Free for Distrubution' if unedited...

    New microwave: inverter?

Tolivac Sorry everyone.... Really not trying to 'hijack' the thread.... My 0-15KV supply is only rated to about 3mA or so. Not so sure about the 0-100KV supply. The data plate only rates it to about 100W continuous, but on the odd occasion when I've had a flashover from it, the fatness...

    Home Economics Revisited...

Home Economics I agree entirely that this should be compulsory in all schools. Less for the 'cookery' aspect than the 'financial management' aspect, though, of course, the one will stem from the other. ;-) Unfortunately, it is a problem worldwide that educators face a powerful, wealthy, and...

    New microwave: inverter?

Tolivac My 100KV laboratory supply (and also a smaller 15KV unit) was made by the (now defunct) U.K. based company of Brandenburg High Voltage. They are similar in all respects to the series of high voltage laboratory supplies manufactured in the U.S. by Messrs. Glassman Inc., Information on...

    New microwave: inverter?

Hydraulique My most profound apologies.... I have just re-read your post, and also my own. I did not think for a minute that you would deliberately disable the door interlock, I suspected that it was a mechanical repair which had -eventually- jammed in the 'door closed' position, I...

Windows 8 - does anybody have it? If so - question

Good old Win98 A big 'Hear, Hear' for Launderess (reply #16). I still use Win98 for everything except the Internet. It's a fantastic, stable OS. Probably the best MS ever came up with IMHO. All best Dave T

    Vintage Pifco Fairy Lights

Fairy lights I don't collect them, but do have a quantity of the tiny ES type bulbs for old-type fairy lights. I think I am in posession of one working string of old lights, not sure of make/model.... All best Dave T

    New microwave: inverter?

Inverter supplies Fascinating thread. I have a 'redundant' inverter supply which I will play with when I have time. (don't panic, Tolivac, I already have a 100KV laboratory supply which also doesn't give second chances!!!). If I read correctly, Hydraulique stated that he had 'bodged' the door...

    Gas refrigerators....

PhilR BEAUTIFUL old Wattmeter (Reply#20) I'll post a pic of mine when I can borrow the camera again... For reference/interest, U.K. electricity price from my supplier 15.74 pence (£0.1574) per KWh, plus 'standing charge' of 11.5 pence (£0.115) per DAY. I still only have a 'sketchy'...

Questions about a new Gas water heater install

Leaks and rentals Leaks are generally bad, but in my (limited) experience, some will self-seal and never give further trouble. Not sure, but 100 rentals sounds a LOT!! 'Dad' should either be paying you 'proper' dollars to administer that lot, or be paying someone else to share the work...
