New to me 1957 NORGE Customatic

Yes that sounds like a thermostat problem for sure.  The failing to start and clicking is due to a restart attempt before the system has had time for the low and high pressure sides of the system to equalize. That is normal for most home fridges if a restart attempt is made before about 10 or 15...

New to me 1957 NORGE Customatic

It is entirely possible that the excess frosting was due to neglect. It could also be a result of a thermostat problem. Either way; that is a very nice example you have there!     There has got to be an interesting story as to how it ended up sitting so long like that.   Sincerely, David

Lamenting and heartbroken over my vintage Hitachi manual washing machine 1977

Could you show pictures of the pump? There is likely a way to adapt something and make this work.

Thanks John, that is good info and sort of what I though might be the case.

We picked up at 1949 bendix Gyro, Matic yesterday

John, this is a really neat washer! I looked around after seeing this thread originally but couldn't find out about the bolted-down versus non-bolted-down models. I'm curious what Bendix did differently in order to allow this model to be free-standing whereas the previous ones had to be bolted...

Transporting a Side x Side fridge

"Old wives' tale" Yes, there is an "old wives' tale" stating that if you lay a fridge down on its side, you have to stand it upright and wait some oddly specific and excessively long time period before starting it up.      People come up with these trying to explain things when they don't...

GE Monitor Top fridge control repair - broken thermostat tube...

<span style="font-family: Verdana, Arial; font-size: 13.3333px; font-weight: 400;">In this video I replace a broken sensing tube on this 94 years old control. These are often broken when they are straightened and re-bent during control removal and installation. Used smaller tubing for the...

    1959 Hotpoint Refrigerator Not Cooling

The closest thing I could find is the 3030-404 with its 39° constant cut-in and a -5° normal cutoff.  This one can go colder at its coldest setting so that you would likely not need to turn the knob as far when setting your cabinet temp. However, it's getting very hard to get this type of...

Soliciting comments about using a monitor top refrig. as a daily driver

Bill, in reading your post, it seems that you're pretty well aware of the limitations on the Monitor Top fridges.   You would be best getting a larger size cabinet model, such as a single-door CK30; or if you have space; a double-door version. The lack of freezer space is an issue for some...

    1959 Hotpoint Refrigerator Not Cooling

Mike, I'm not 100% sure about the configuration of your fridge, as far as the thermostat goes. It appears to be a cycle-defrost design with the thermostat measuring the temperature of the fridge compartment evaporator plate. If that is the case, you will need a constant-cut-in thermostat for...

Don't Ever Put Your Battery Chargers in the Wash...

End of cycle signal.... You got that right. Who needs an End of Cycle Signal when you get an End of Laundromat signal?!?

Don't Ever Put Your Battery Chargers in the Wash...

Very lucky man.  As others have said, the real reason for this may never be known. I've seen this same video with multiple descriptions. The first one I remember seeing stated a can of Axe body spray was left in the dryer. The issue here is that people will find a video clip and try to monetize...

    more chinese dehumidifiers recalled...(fire hazard)

This is a result of using the absolute cheapest components China has to offer, and housing them in side a combustible plastic enclosure. These are engineered to fail in a small number of years to ensure you continue to buy more of them. One of the many down-sides to this is the unpredictable...

    1959 Hotpoint Refrigerator Not Cooling

That does sound like the thermostat isn't working correctly, since it's only running for 5 minutes and stopping. Normally if it's a start relay problem the short cycles will be very short; maybe 5 seconds.  It sounds like the compressor is running normally while it's running, just cutting off...
