Alexander, I agree with you there. In our W1, we use cottons, delicates, shirts and power wash. All of the other cycles don’t get touched. Options wise, it’s Short, water Plus and steam. The Fisher Paykel toploaders also let you skip steps of the cycle, to let you skip through till the end.

I think your overthinking the drain hose. The rest of the world has had corrugated plastic hoses since the 80's without issue and even the US has for the last 20 years. I wouldnt worry about it.

Simmerstat is just another word for variable temperature control. It likely cycles the element on and off with different ratios based on what number it is set to. Until of course you get to full and then the element stays on until it’s hotter than the sun. Why wasn’t an infrared thermometer...
