    American tube radios...

#11,indeed a good AA5 can pull in distant stations quite well :) Have not put my more recent find AA5s or 4 tube Meteor to proper DX tests. I have a Philco HIFI phono similar to the one Matt posted awaiting repair: made in 1954 and decent size amp.

Are modern refrigerators really worth the upgrade?

neither does my 1980 GE top freezer ( i have replaced both fans about 15 years ago-when they got noisy). Years ago had a family reunion and ran a couple spare fridges in the yard in direct sunlight : one a 2013 model the other an old 1977 WCI Kelvinator-the Kelvinator with about 1/4 hp...

    Bose buys McIntosh (audio equipment)

came across a video of a McIntosh 4100 under repair and it looked delightfully "old skool" inside and out-nice big transformer and filter caps and transistor heat sinks, could not count how many output transistors there was. I think the subject 4100 was from 1983.

    Bose buys McIntosh (audio equipment)

The Bose i am most familiar with besides the 901,is the Delco-Bose stereos in certain GM cars starting in 1983: special low level output head unit outputting to amplified speaker modules-the amp in these modules especially prone to bad capacitors, probably too much heat buildup in that plastic...

    Bose buys McIntosh (audio equipment)

I thought bose had degraded to a "BPC" brand some time ago... but this notion could be wrong? Last i knew, McIntosh was still at least assembled in USA and premium stuff worthy of analog source.I almost bought a McIntosh receiver about 1992 at a stereo store table sale: noticed the transformer...

    Filter Flo?

Trying to identify old GE washer

working on this will be like working on an off-brand 1920s car: no new parts, crumbling rubber parts, congealed up grease, etc. On the plus side, heavy iron parts and no plastic.... Motor,if original, probably is a GE wound rotor slip ring type type.Probably will need a...

    Consumer Reports

    Advice on Chevy Celebrity Eurosport

I think the fan with 5 straight blades is larger diameter and larger motor-i think i have only seen this fan on '85-later 2.8 . The 7 curved blades style i have seen on 2.5 and 2.8. The 4.3 diesel (82-85) had a big 16.5" 7 straight blades with a very big motor-about the most powerful electric...
