    Indesit Prestige Line OMEGA 1000

Non-spinning issues can usually be resolved, we've had a few such cases posted here in recent months... talk to people here before you break it! A new thread might help...

    POD 22/02/2018 - Frigidaire 1959 "Queen's Ransom" "Jubilee Sweepstakes"

I do like the look of the Frigidaire appliances of this era. Why the aforementioned wording, though? I initially assumed it had to be some kind of UK royal connection, aimed at Anglophile Americans, but 1959 was a mere 7 years into QE2's ongoing reign...

    Frigidaire Classic Front Load Washer

What was the outer tub in these made of? Stainless, enamel, or just plastic?

    POD 18/02/2018 - Frigidaire Rollermatic Jet-Action washer

Presumably this is part of the Unimatic series? Vertical agitation? How does the machine actually propel the agitator? I might guess at a motor driving a cam continuously, with a second motor for the spin? I know absolutely nothing about these, except that I think they look nice.

'Which?' names the causes of fires

BSH isn't all that these days either. I hadn't heard WP had bought Indesit?

    Maytag, Really...

What makes the tub clean cycle different to wash cycles? I've never encountered a machine with such a thing... is it the one and only way to get a decent amount of heat?

1956? MAYTAG GAS DRYER - MINNEAPOLIS

Thanks! What do the B, C and W suffixes indicate?

1956? MAYTAG GAS DRYER - MINNEAPOLIS

Apologies for necroposting - does anyone know what model numbers the pre-"Halo of Heat" perforated-drum Maytag dryers were given?

    Blackstone model 191 dryer

Did anyone buy this in the end, or did it get scrapped?

POD 13/02/2018 - Lady Kenmore Dual-Action vs competitors bib-cleaning comparison

One wonders what the competitors are? Brand B looks like a GE, Brand C a Maytag? Not sure what Brand A is - the only thing I can think of is Whirlpool, but then given WP made the Kenmore too, I'm not sure they'd appreciate Sears advertising against them!

POD 10/02/2018 Westinghouse Heavy Duty Multi-Speed Laundromat straight-front F/L & High Speed dryer

I've heard that all these Westies did that, rusting out, right up to c.1990 when they were discontinued. Those Maytags may not have been the most spectacular machines, but they didn't need the 'heavy duty' branding their competitors used - they just WERE heavy duty! Which is why there appear...

Is there a consensus? SAHM needs a washer!

Mieles - expensive but worth it. They just work - and they work better than anything else.

POD 10/02/2018 Westinghouse Heavy Duty Multi-Speed Laundromat straight-front F/L & High Speed dryer

These look like quite handsome machines, albeit the elliptical window on the washer bothers my OCD! I seem to recall reading that few survive because they were poorly built, most rusting away... what was the maximum spin speed? I'm guessing it wasn't about to bother Frigidaire. Presumably these...

    Another GE find

I wonder whether it wouldn't be easier/cheaper to get a replacement tub, either a NOS part (if available) or a better one from a donor parts machine...

Managed to get a 2017 Speed Queen

Sounds like a machine that should have been rejected. There's no excuse for leaving fit-and-finish work to the customer.

Guys, I need some help with a new design

Maximum temp of 66c is hopeless! There are a lot of buyers around the world who want a lot hotter than that...

    Source for phosphate/ STPP

Phosphates are a bad idea all-round. They've been banned in detergents this side of the Atlantic for a very good reason. If you need to get whites really clean, you need a good powder detergent with oxygen bleach, loads of heat (preferably 190+ Fahrenheit), and time. An unheated old-school...

POD 07/02/2018 - Norge Dispensomat washer & dryer

Handsome-looking machines - do any of these survive? The Dispensomat feature was so ahead of its time. Did these Norge washers have the same rather brutal agitation as the simpler machines featured in the POD back on the 17th January? Also, when were these machines in production?

POD 01/02/2018 - Bendix Tumble Agitator front-load washer

True, Chrysler had some great designs. Virgil Exner was no fool - but Harley Earl was more flamboyant IMO. What a life he had! Born in the 19th century, before cars really existed; lived through two world wars and retired as the supersonic jet age was unfolding, having designed some of the most...

POD 01/02/2018 - Bendix Tumble Agitator front-load washer

Internal competition can be healthy, but when it's actually leading to direct sabotage between divisions, that's just bonkers! That said, the Edsel's styling alone was bound to doom it. I never did like that era of FoMoCo products as much as their GM counterparts, though - from '57 Bel Air to...
