Your window ACs in use this season.

Jeff, the noise level and vibration is a big issue for me with window units.  The friend I mentioned in my prior post had an old Frigidaire window unit mounted in the window directly above his bed.   Without a headboard, the entire wall resonated behind the pillows.    In my own bedroom, the...

    Physical part stores

Trinitron I bought myself a 17" Sony Trinitron in 1977 when I got my apartment in Santa Monica.  Olympic Sales  was a bare bones retailer in Los Angeles that consistently advertised the lowest price, even though Sony was similar to Maytag in those days with a "fair trade" type of pricing system...

    Physical part stores

I remember when there were tube tester consoles in grocery stores, likely placed there by independent vendors and stocked with the most commonly used tubes in case you had one that sent the pointer into the "Replace" zone on the meter.  They were interesting contraptions with all sorts of knobs...

    Vintage Gold Seal Mangle

I had forgotten all about this thread.  I received a reply advising that its operating condition was unknown.  I decided not to take a chance on it, but the info from L. and J. will help if something less iffy comes along.

found western holly and westinghouse continental in uk

Your Western Holly dates back to at least 1954.  The kitchen in the 1954 home Dave and I first lived in together was originally outfitted with a Western Holly wall oven and cooktop.   Only the cooktop remained by the time we moved into the house in 1986.   All homes in the development had...

What model of Maytag washer do I have?

Now I'm Confused My 1987 A712 has the timer on the right of the panel, which is brown with brown buttons and brown timer knob.  It has its original pitman transmission.

Your window ACs in use this season.

I've been considering a window unit for the bedroom, but am concerned about noise level.  I'm currently using a Soleus GL-PAC-08E4 portable unit that I found for sale on Nextdoor classifieds.  I paid $50 for it a little over a year ago, it's fairly quiet and has a relatively small footprint, but...

What Happened to the "Latest Posts" Forum Index Page?

Yeah, I'm out of days. I usually remember to start checking the number of days left, but it's been a busy month. Thanks to all who replied.

What Happened to the "Latest Posts" Forum Index Page?

It's not appearing for me, and it's my go-to landing spot here. I logged out and back in but no change. Is anyone else experiencing this? Windows 10 on a Dell laptop here.

    Junk store find.

I use a Chemex on a daily basis, but I have it teamed up with my Bonavita drip machine.  The brew is remarkably smooth as a result of the Chemex filters.  They're expensive compared to other types, but IMO they are worth it.  It works out to about a dime per filter.  Considering what I pay for...

Are refrigerator defrost timers universal, these days?

Jamie, you'll probably have to remove the timer motor and check its specs, the part/model number and RPM in particular, and then launch a search for a replacement.  I don't think it should be that hard to find one even in this annoying digital age.

    Beware the Pinkness ...

I think the Psycho shower scene poster says it all about the person behind this Pepto Bismol horror show/puke fest.

    Mid 90's Amana washer

Welcome Ellaina,   There shouldn't be any grease on the belt.  I had a '97 Amana and it went through three belts in ten years.  It's probably best to replace the belt and make sure that the pulleys are free of grease before installing the new one.  Others here can advise on a possible source...

    Vintage Gold Seal Mangle

This is up for grabs (AKA free) on Nextdoor classifieds.  I've contacted the poster to ask whether it's in working order.  I have room for it in the basement.   Can anyone provide information on it, or are all mangles more or less alike?

Look at what's in the kitchen

Eddie is right.  In my area, the land alone could go for $1,000,000 in any number of neighborhoods, and the house would absolutely be a scrape job, no question about it.

    GE Jet 105 Microwave.

We had that same microwave in the rather posh rental home we lived in near Los Gatos before we bought our own place, which we knew would be a relative dump.  The kitchen had been redone with all GE equipment in the '80s, oak cabinetry, and a dropped ceiling with an oak grid to hold the textured...

    Worse invention of last 30yrs...

I agree that LED street lighting is even less effective than the yellow low pressure sodium vapor types that they're gradually replacing around here, but the headlights are a huge problem that needs to be addressed.  Teslas are the worst offenders.  Their headlights seem to be maladjusted at the...
