As noted earlier, if you do go with a top loader, the Speed Queen TC5003 is the only way to go.  However, it will not accommodate a comforter.  If you go with a top loader, you might just take the large bulky items to the laundromat.

I have to take it once a year to laundromat Mark,   That is one reason I switched to a Front Loader.  I still love my old Maytag A608; however, I do love my LG 3900 too.  It's more flexible, efficient, and cleans very well!

Clumping I think that may have something to do with the quality of the product or how it's stored.  I had that happen with some STPP that I bought off Ebay that came in large plastic bags.  However, I've never had that happen with STPP that I've purchased from Amazon, which comes in plastic tub.

This model probably dates to the early 2000s.  I bought a Maytag DW with that control panel design when I lived in New Mexico in the early part of that decade.
