I think Whirlpool found the right balance when they released the KitchenAid washers with the bigger base agitators. They really should have done that with all of their brands. In 37 years I never had clothes damaged by any direct drive I've ever owned.

At 51 years old this machine is already over twice it's life expectancy.Well done Whirlpool. This machine owes nobody anything.

A friend of mine in New York has one and the thing was like new and so far so good.

Whirlpool had continued to make the Maytag line the way they were making the KitchenAid washers that could have been a smooth transition. Could have should have would have doesn't matter now.

I think the specification details on the older belt drives were a little more thorough or gave you more information. I would assume the 74 Kenmore would probably be just like the 76 Whirlpool your family had Glenn. They both had/have those larger tubs. I can see the difference with the Kenmore...

How about you switch it up and you tell us how many failures you get on Samsung or LG or GE for a change. Everybody's well aware of the problems Whirlpool has been having.

Thanks Cory for this. I can remember the RCA console TVs we had from the 70s to early 2000s. Would be cool to go back to those today. It was like artwork in your living room.
