Improving Top Loader Washer Performance Via Intermediate Soaks

I did have both types of washers for a little while and I used them back and forth and didn't find an appreciable difference in performance. My clothes don't get heavily soiled so may be not a true comparison. Have a few washers in rotation now because I don't have the setup to plumb them all. I...

    Hot Wash Cold Rinse Cycle?

Yes Chet. My 2005 built KitchenAid dumbs down the water temperature for warm also. Even on rinse it is on the more cold side even without using the "sensor Sure" warm or cold. At least the one option I have for a hot water wash is straight hot. The 85 Whirlpool supreme only gives you one option...

Taming a Rollermatic - Custom Deluxe style!

Oh wow. I remember seeing some old consumer reports reporting about the higher likelihood of clothes getting caught between tubs with solid tub spin drains from the 1950s. All our favorite machines have pluses and minuses. Whirlpool/Kenmore BD with their slower spinning is a negative to many on...

    "The Last Word" – Whirlpool's 1961 Ultimatic - 16mm Film

Wonder when they stopped offering porcelain cabinets ? Maybe there are some old ones out there yet to be discovered and quite possibly new in the box. One can always dream....

    "The Last Word" – Whirlpool's 1961 Ultimatic - 16mm Film

Yes Sean I think they were too. I've seen them from the old Sears catalog from the 50s and 60s listing some machines with all porcelain finish. I don't know if Whirlpool is still doing all porcelain cabinets by 63 though. I would think your model would have had it being it is an Imperial

Got new appliances after 18 years

Well as far as appliances are concerned I did want to upgrade to some new ones like a speed Queen washer but I find for the price and the lack of flexibility I'll pass. My 2013 AWN432 had more flexibility. My washers are a 1985 Whirlpool supreme SC belt drive, a 1974 Kenmore 70 series washer...

    "The Last Word" – Whirlpool's 1961 Ultimatic - 16mm Film

I just learned something new. I always thought they reserved those porcelain cabinets for the more top of the line models. I wonder why they did that though ? It's not like they used the body of the machine to catch a spinning tub of water, being they were perforated basket washers. Still a cool...

    "The Last Word" – Whirlpool's 1961 Ultimatic - 16mm Film

I believe top of the line top loading agitator washers from both brands in the early 60s would have had porcelain cabinets also.... So they were probably equal. It's just the cosmetics that are different. Could be wrong though 🤷. Don't know if they made the combos with all porcelain cabinets...

Taming a Rollermatic - Custom Deluxe style!

I would have thought with the design of that tub in the Unimatic that it would have kept small items in. There hasn't been a video that I've seen where a sock or something small gets thrown over the side in one of these machines. Not discounting your experience, but maybe it wasn't all that...

    "The Last Word" – Whirlpool's 1961 Ultimatic - 16mm Film

That is one beautiful console. I think in many cases that Whirlpool's top of the line machines were just as pretty or prettier than sister Kenmore.

    2010 TC vs 2023 TR3?

That's a wonderful set. Had the AWN432 bought in 2013. Had it 7 years and it worked perfectly. When I sold my house I gave the machine to a collector that wanted it.

The most stylish "Cadillac of washers"?

While that black 57 Unimatic pair is a nice looking set, I find that Robert's 58 Imperial Unimatic is far better looking. After all shouldn't every washing machine have a panel light on it ?

What is your favorite washer of all time?

Would love to find a pair of Whirlpool imperial Mark 18s from about 74 to 76

The most stylish "Cadillac of washers"?

Probably the 1959 or 1960 Lady Kenmores. I don't know what other top loader had more "bling" than them in that time frame.

What were your childhood interests in appliances, machinery, etc?

My mom's 1963 Kenmore 600 washer was where it started plus an interest in fans and other appliances like dishwashers and stoves. Stereo equipment also
