    F&P Laundry in US

You know, it's funny you mention this, because I looked into getting an F&P top loader to replace my direct drive Whirlpool that just died. I remembered that Glenn/DADoES spoke very highly of them. Turns out, they haven't made top loaders for the US market in years. I also contemplated LG, but...

    Whatever Happened?

Reply #30 Eddie, I normally use Palmolive as well but a few grocery runs ago I got Dawn. I don't care for the scent of Dawn much but it doesn't super bother me. Stacye does water color paintings a lot as kind of a hobby, and she always washes her hands afterword with Mrs. Meyer's dish soap...

GE filter-flo vs. Whirlpool direct drive oils

Reply #1 John, I think I know what Jerome is referring to. One can smell the warm gear oil in some machines while they are running. Come to think of it, the filter flow is a prominent example of this, especially during the spin cycle. I just never really thought about it until this thread. I...

    Whatever Happened?

Reply #21 In my opinion Arm and Hammer is one of the worst offenders in this perspective. 100% agree with this. I think Arm and Hammer detergent, both liquid and powder, stinks to high heaven. Also the powder leaves dust everywhere. I bought a huge box of it a couple years ago because it was...

Out with the Speed Queen; in with the Lady Kenmore!

Was this machine set on a gentle speed? Agitation seemed slower than what I remember being typical for these washers.

    Whatever Happened?

Reply #15 The only thing I know about Amway is that they make cat food that my family's childhood cat did nothing but puke up every day, LOL. Didn't even know they made detergent.

From Cascade fan to Finish Convert...

I feel like I could never get the dosing right for powdered or liquid detergents in a DW so I've always used pods. I used to use Cascade Platinum but I found it sudsed up too much, so I now use Cascade Complete pods and they do an satisfactory job. I don't think any detergent is going to blow me...

    Whatever Happened?

I find the Tide clean breeze scent to be pleasant enough if dosed carefully. Reminds me of a nice warm load of laundry washed by my granny when I was a kid. :) Tide Ultra with Oxi isn't bad either in liquid formation, but the pod version smells different and really terrible in my opinion. Ugh...

    Got myself a new laptop

Oh yes, the typos of others make for an interesting screen reader experience sometimes. Often I know what people are trying to say, but occasionally I have to go letter by letter to figure it out. I think in a lot of cases people use dictation and don't check it over before posting, and I think...

    Got myself a new laptop

Reply #1 It came with Windows 11 installed from the factory. I used Windows Narrator to get through all the setup screens and then to download my preferred screen reader. After that I commenced to downloading all my other programs. Narrator has gotten a lot better over the past few years, in...

I did something I said I’d never do again — I bought a new VMW

Reply #7 Yes, VMW's are top loaders. VMW stands for "vertical modular washer," Whirlpool's platform of belt-driven top load washer that replaced the direct drive in 2010.

    Got myself a new laptop

Around a month ago, my trusty Lenovo laptop, first Stacye's then handed down to me when she upgraded to Mac, finally died. It would only hum when plugged into the charger, and on battery power it would literally do nothing at all. My in-laws have been using the same computer guy for years and...

I did something I said I’d never do again — I bought a new VMW

Reply #3 Jamie, have you tried quick wash for small loads? That’s what I used on a just-opened pack of sleeveless shirts that I wanted to freshen up — I always do this with new clothes. The washer only filled about a third of the way, still a bit more water than necessary IMO but definitely not...

I did something I said I’d never do again — I bought a new VMW

Reply #1 Eddie, it’s funny because I actually thought of you when I purchased the set. The thing is, I really thought I meant what I said in early 2022 when my old VMW died. I didn’t like it much and if I couldn’t have a vintage machine, I was by God going to buy an LG with turbo wash or and SQ...

I did something I said I’d never do again — I bought a new VMW

Yep, you guys read that right. After a year and a half of complaining about this platform of washer, I bought a new one and its companion dryer. It’s the same Whirlpool WTW4816FW that I had before, but it seems they’ve improved it a lot since my previous model was manufactured. You all might...

Whirlpool dryer taking a long time to dry clothes

Reply #42 Mark, I’ve thought the same thing. Don’t remember anyone I knew growing up cleaning their dryer vents but they would always complain about slow drying after several years. Wonder how many dryers were junked prematurely back in the day when this issue wasn’t really talked about. That...

    Garlic lemon chicken

Reply #3 Glenn, that parmesan caesar chicken sounds delicious! How much caesar do you use, and how much parmesan? Or do you just kinda eyeball it?

    Garlic lemon chicken

Reply #1 Eddie, Thank you for your kind words. I didn't know until recently that people share recipes on here. This is so much more than a laundry forum and I enjoy reading what else people have contributed beyond the world of washers. I cook at home a lot these days, and being visually...

    CR detergent tests update

There's something to be said for the Tide Ultra Oxi with Odor Eliminators coming out on top in the pod formation. I use both the liquid and pod version of this. After several rounds of trial-and-error with different detergents, this one seems to work the best for me. I think it smells nice...

    Coffee

I'm with many of the others, don't care for K cups. We had one for a while and aside from making, in my opinion, terrible coffee, it was so wasteful because we drink two cups of coffee each a day at least so drip coffee maker it is in this house. We use Maxwell House Breakfast Blend Light Roast...
