    Kitchen Exhaust Fan, circa 1953

Hey folks, We just redid our kitchen; but kept the ol' circa 1953 Signal Exhaust Fan. It still works pretty well after nearly 70 years! The orig. circular grille though is encrusted with that many years of grease, etc. Tried to replace it with a newer, white one, but the bars holding the new...

    Sunbeam Mixmaster.

I was just given a early 80's Mixmaster, which was never used. Plugged it in, just hums, beaters do not turn.... Can anything be done with it, or is it toast? My partner's sister was given it as a wedding gift in 1980 (on left); tucked it away, never even took it out of the box! Strangely, it...

Does anyone have one of these? Are the various dispensers still working after all these years? Seems so complex and thus fraught with mechanical issues. Curious...

    POD Westinghouse

Curious, anyone know WHY Westie moved away from the "Program Computer" back to this simpler dial design? Were the buttons and radio style dial too costly and prone to failure? Did it make the Westies too costly compared to the competition? Seems like a step backward in some ways. Thanks! Duane

    POD 10/9

Curious, did these clean very well? Doesn't look like they would, but much like the ol' Maytags, prob lasted forever since there was little movement, so little wear.

    POD 12/29/11 Philco

Anyone out there have one of these or remember exactly how well these worked? Am I correct in assuming that they didn't work well; doesn't appear the agitator design lasted long. LOVE the "7% cleaner" claim! Pure Madison Ave. hype; how could that ever be proven? Curious what folks have to say...

    POD 11-30-11 Westy

Does anyone have a late 50's -early 60's front load Westy? Sure seemed like they were cool, esp. the "Program Computer" ones. I assume all those pushbuttons made for a less than reliable machine. Seems like more of the earlier Westys turn up; wonder if they were more reliable, or were more...

    Dishwasher POD 11-27-11

Does anyone out there have one of these and what brand is it?? I know some the early (20's-mid-50's) dishwashers were countertop height; sure makes more sense than undercounter! A few modern houses I've seen have had the DW mounted a bit higher, with a short cabinet underneath. Wonder why the...

Any idea what year this washer came out? Is it an ad from another country? I've never seen a clock on a washer before, is anyone aware if any other manufacturer offered this option? Sure looks to be a TOL washer, does anyone have one in their collection? Thanks! Duane

    POD 4-30-11

These combos are so cool! Sort of amazed though at the 8 lb capacity. Seems SO low compared to today's machines. I realize these were pretty complex machines being both front-loader AND dryer... Did the capacity go up over the yrs. as with other washers? Does anyone have any combo that lasted...

    POD 12-16-06

Hey, I want the "Magic Minute"; so useful for SO many things! Wonder why it was limited to just one model and just washers! LOL! Actually, do this manually with soiled whites: Put in the bleach and detergent, let it fill to small load, put in the socks, etc. let 'em agitate a few min. Then...

    POD..Youngstown DW

Too cool! Love how this unit is mounted ABOVE the standard counter height...Just seems to be coming back into vogue finally; I've worked on a few custom houses where the DW was mounted higher for easier access. Sure makes sense to me- wasn't aware anyone was doing that in the "fab 50's". Has...

    POD...Questions...

Curious, was this the last year for slant front Westinghouse washers? Looks like they took a step or two backwards from the Program Computer model of a few years before! Seems like we see more of the earlier models functional on this site; quality go down in the 60's? Had a late 70's...

POD...and thermostat questions on 40" Frigidare

What a GREAT GE stove!!! Late 50's, early 60's? Wish I had a mint one to solve my problem! Wonder when GE stopped the pushbutton controls? I've seen a few in white or coppertone that I guess to be late 60's early 70's... OK..now for a question..Have a 40" 1969 Frigidare Custom Imperial range...

    Kenmore Elite/Bosch dishwasher...Questions...

Howdy Folks, We just replaced our diswasher(think it was a GE built Kenmore-8 yrs.old)with a Bosch designed Kenmore Elite. Anyone had any experience with them? The manual claims that only powdered detergent should be used- of course, we had purchased 2 large jugs o' liquid shortly before the...
