    New Kenmore Vacuum

I just want to thank everyone for the innumerable time and priceless advise given to me in the other thread. I read every reply in detail, took everything to heart, watched the videos posted and considered all the options given to me. It was not an easy choice by any means because each and...

    Time For a New Furnace

Who makes the Speed Queen of Gas Furnaces? Who makes the best 2 pipe furnaces in terms of longevity? Right now I've got a 16 year old Heil h9mpd100j20c2 single stage high efficiency gas furnace and its acting up again. It has been eating replacement parts for years and the insides are rusted out...

    Who Makes These Vacuums?

I am planning on buying a new Vacuum. These look like genuine Kenmores, but they look to real and to good to be true. I thought Sears went under and genuine Kenmore quality is no longer a thing. Also, which version is better? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075DZY7FR...

    Liquid Fabric Softener

Does anyone else use liquid fabric softener? And if so what type and how much? If not, why not? I will sometimes use softener on sheets, shirts and towels particularly in the winter. My favorite softener is Snuggle Blue Sparkle. It provides a light, gentle softness with a great scent that I...

How Would You Imagine A 2025 Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer?

This is how I imagine a direct drive washer in 2025. Glass lid, dual action agitator, stainless steal wash basket, precision built transmission and drive train, commercial grade clutch, 50/50 flow serviceable water valves, tap hot fill, warm rinse option, porcelain enamel coated lid and body...

GE Lavadora Wash and Rinse Temperature

I noticed this washer doesn't have a temperature selection knob. Are the temps built into the cycles? Or is there only one pre-determined temperature?

Difference between Home-style and Commercial Speed Queen

I came across this and I can't help but notice some difference. Why is the tub smaller on the commercial model? Does the Home-Style model have a larger/better balance ring? Why the difference between the two and is one better than the other?

Speed Queen Special Military Edition Washer

What does everyone think of these? They seem to be that TR series which I am guessing will now move its way down the commercial lineup. I like the concept of having the temps built into the cycles, but I don't like the lack of water level selector unless the machine is load sensing.

    Definition of Cold Water Washing

What is the correct definition of cold water washing? P&G seems to state cold water as being a minimum of 90*F while Whirlpool defines cold water as being between 55-65*F. When detergent manufacturers talk about being able to wash in cold water, what temperature do they have in mind? Why is...

    Dryer Sheets

Does anyone else use dryer sheets? I thought I would give these a try as I love the scent. I also don't like the idea of liquid softner in the washing machine so I use it on occasion.

Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

This video makes an excellent case as to why modern appliances are so lack luster in reliability. It explores 6 potential causes: Cost, Compliance, Corporations, Computers, Complexity and Conspiracy. And also proposes a solution of customers buying appliances based on reliability along with...

    Kmart Grand Opening in 1975

I came across this post on Reddit at a random chance while searching for pictures of vintage washing machines. I feel like I won the lottery. The pictures absolutely get me. In particular the appliance department, the cabinets in the home improvement department, the lighting fixtures in the...

    Most Commonly Set Oven Temperature

What temperature you most often find yourself setting your oven to? For me it is 425*F followed by 375*F, 400*F, 350*F and 450*F respectively. I find cookies cook best at 375*F rather than 350*F and 425 is common for so many meats and potatoes that I bake.

    Persil Laundry Detergent

Ok, so thanks to Jerome and as I promised. I ordered some Persil laundry detergent. First load. I filled the cap all the way and I am doing a medium load. So far lots of suds. The scent is strong, like flowers are growing out the machine LOL. I will see the results. I have a few grease stand...

I don't understand why they can't just get labels or Frozen Food Right

I absolutely despise when this happens. You buy a frozen product, it tells you explicitly on how to cook it, you follow the directions to the T as you're taught in school "follow directions" thinking you'll get it right while having the perfect outcome like on the box and it still all goes...

Some things are not even worth half of the buying price

Take this video I came across. These mini toasters used to be $10 originally on Amazon and Ebay, yet have now jumped to $30 despite being identical in quality and make. I am almost certain the UL sticker on the bottom is stretched out with a few golden samples...

Do Top Load Washers Sound Better on 50Hz or 60Hz?

This video got me thinking. Its a speed compensated 50Hz direct drive drive. I kind of like the 100Hz motor buzz in addition to the familiar drone and klunk-klunk of the agitation. Which got me thinking. Would various vintage toploaders sound better if built and run on 50 cycle operation...

Why Couldn't The Maytag Neptune Be This Simple

This is how I imagine, or at least how I would like to see most front load washers. The machine has three mal-operation relays- two deal with an-out-of balance load that trip and hold open, the other monitors motor current and will trip and lock open before the motor's internal overload does...

    Hoover Keymatic Operation

How does the Hoover Keymatic work? For example, why did the Keymatic have a pulsesator? Why couldn't it just tumble the clothes and water instead of spinning the disk on the back? Why did tumbling start on a low water level? Why did the timer stall out during the drain period? Also what is the...

    Maytag Washer Automatic Soak Cycles

Does anyone know the history of Maytag's various Soak Cycles and how they differed from one another? Does anyone remember the soak sequence, especially in washers that automatically advanced into wash after the soak period? I wish more washers offered an auto soak period prior to the wash. I...
