    Vintage gift ideas

My moms birthday is coming up soon and I'd like to get her a vintage gift from the year she was born ('56) or at least the same decade. She likes vintage items of all kinds from her childhood, everything from candy to appliances. I've got no idea whatsoever of what I'll get her. I'd like...

    Resident stain specialists!

Im in trouble... I quickly threw a load of my husbands work clothes into the washer and didn't quite check the pockets good enough (in my defense his uniforms have, literally, about 10 pockets on the tops and on the bottoms) and I missed the ink pen in the little pen holder on his sleeve. I've...

    No more over-sudsing!

I recently had dinner with a friend and her husband. They are both PhD's in biology and chemistry, respectively. The husband is a tenured professor and does a lot of research with the oil industry and others. Somehow we got on the topic of detergents and I was lamenting having to give up Wisk...

    Tide he Turbo

Costco had a coupon for $6 off a 180 load box of Tide (I paid $22) so I picked one up. There were two stacks, one said ultra Tide he, the other stack didn't say ultra but did say "he Turbo"... has anyone else seen this or know the difference? I found nothing about it on the Tide website.

    Purex PowerShot

This is interesting... the bottle measures and dispenses the detergent for you and then automatically refills with the "appropriate" amount of detergent for the next load. 1 shot = 1 load. According to the website, they base 1 load on 6lbs of dry laundry. They also recommend using water that is...

P&G sells soap brands to Unilever

Finally, more info is trickling out about what products P&G is divesting or discontinuing. I've never heard of Camay but everyone knows Zest. Im very curious to see what other products are going to be affected. http://fortune.com/2014/12/22/pg-sells-soaps-to-unilever/?xid=yahoo_fortune

    Anyone who sews

Im in need of a new serger and I want something quality so that Im not replacing it every few years. I went to a local sewing shop and found a few that I really liked, the Baby Lock brand, but I almost choked when the sales lady told me the prices. Does anyone have any experience with this...

    Permanent stain?

Hello all, My 4 yr old left this shirt outside and apparently it's been out there for at least a few months, hidden somewhere. It's very dirty and stinky and I was hoping to save it but I can't get the dirt or stink out. I've washed it twice, once in cool and once in warm (no dryer) with Tide...

Never ever use detergent.... just baking soda

Im sitting here in my little hospital bed awaiting surgery tomorrow (got my first kidney stone, wouldn't recommend it) and my husband calls because he doesnt know how to wash the diapers. I tell him my wash routine and thats that. There was a nurses assistant in the room at the time and right...

    First vintage appliance

I bought my first vintage appliance! It's a Hobart made KitchenAid K5-SS stand mixer. I have been through no less than 5 modern KitchenAid mixers in the last few years and was to the point of swearing off KitchenAid for good but then I started reading about plastic parts and plastic gear houses...

    Satin Ornaments

Hello all, Are satin ball ornaments made anymore? I haven't been able to find any in-store but I wasn't sure whether they were just unpopular or not even made anymore. We had them when I was a kid and while I HATED the fact that they would pull and snag so easily I loved the muted glow they had...

    Vintage Canisters

My grandmother had this set when I was very young and Im hoping someone can tell me something about them. Like who made them, approximately when they may have been made and so on, Id really appreciate it! I just have the photo, haven't seen the actual set since I was maybe 5 or 6.

    French Detergent

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some Super Croix detergent? Either the liquid or the bulles? The destination scents they have look interesting and Id like to give em a go. Thanks!

    Tide Total Clean?

Hello all Has anyone seen or used Tide Total Clean? I just spotted this at my local Sams, it's part of the "plus collection" apparently but it's not on the Tide website. Just curious if anyone has seen or tried it.

    Hospital Germs

I got to spend a lovely few days in the hospital and I took along my favorite Pajamas. I can only imagine what creepy crawlies I brought home! I can't use bleach on them and Im wondering if the sanitize cycle on my machine (it's supposed to get up to 150) is enough to kill any lingering germs or...

    I need hot water!

I have a Samsung 419 washer, I decided to fiddle around with it today in hopes of being able to get actual hot water when I select normal -> hot. I measured it this morning before doing anything to the machine and the water temp started out at 82 and then hit 74 mid cycle. Obviously that isn't...

    HTD heavy duty detergent

I found this while searching for phosphated detergents and was wondering if anyone had ever heard of it or used it... the description says it does contain phosphates. Also, the same company has a large pail of dry oxy bleach but Im wondering if its the same as oxiclean and filled with washing...

    homemade fabric softener?

Saw this video on youtube... a lady makes fabric softener from vinegar and hair conditioner. She says it cleans out her machine and doesn't build up in clothes but Im a bit skeptical. What do you all think? Surely hair conditioner would be just as "bad" as regular fabric softener.... right? -Andi

    Clorox 2 Advanced Whitening

Hello all, Been reading this site for a bit but this is the first time that I've posted. I recently bought a bottle of Clorox 2 Advanced Whitening and was wondering if anyone else had used it. It seems to be fairly new and according to the bottle, uses hydrogen peroxide. Is this pretty much the...
