    Vintage memories.

One of the houses I grew up in was sold last year, and I’ve saved the pictures from the real estate site.    The kitchen still has the knotty pine cabinets and vaguely “colonial” black hinges and pulls.  I can’t believe all of it is still there!  There have been some changes, though.    The...

    My first ADLUH biscuits.

Thanks to Hans, I first learned about ADLUH flour, and I finally had a chance to get some for myself.  The first thing I made with the flour was a batch of cream biscuits, which turned out very nicely.  The flour seems to be slightly less finely ground than White Lily, but that did not affect...

    Christmas Pudding and Christmas Cake.

If you haven’t made yours yet, you better get cracking.  They’ve got to age at least a couple of weeks.   My family insists on Trifle as the Christmas dessert, but some years I also make a Christmas Pudding, and some years I make a Christmas Cake for Twelfth Night (which makes it technically a...

    Hillwood House.

My husband and I were in DC recently, and we went to Hillwood House for part of the day.  It’s a house museum that was once the residence of Marjorie Merriweather Post.  The museum’s claim to fame is that they have two of the Imperial Fabergé Easter eggs.  The place is actually packed with...

    Chromalox Double Burner Hot Plate.

I really like this little thing, but not for the price they’ve listed.   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Chromalox-Double-Burner-Hot-Plate-Stove-Edwin-L-Wiegand-Co-/222183029795?hash=item33bb23fc23:g:l70AAOSwyKxXhBDV

    Celebrating an old heritage.

I guess this had to happen eventually.  It appears that the new regional cuisine on everyone’s list is the food of the central Appalachians.   ...

Frigidaire RO-70 range in Richmond, VA

It makes me sad to see this listing.  Two months, and apparently it hasn’t sold.  I’d hate to think that it would be trashed.   http://richmond.craigslist.org/app/5404862794.html

    Frigidaire RM-27.

$498 at Kudzu Antiques in Decatur, Georgia.  Too expensive, especially with 2 dings right in front.  Still, it looks pretty good overall, and apparently not used very much.  Sorry, I didn't get a picture. [this post was last edited: 3/19/2016-21:36]

    1948 (or ’49?) Roper ‘Town & Country’

This is listed as a ’48, but I’m pretty sure it’s a ’49.   Roper ‘Town & Country’ ranges are probably my favorite design of all the mid-century ranges, gas or electric.  All those eyes and ovens, and a griddle, too!  Unfortunately, the burners on mid-century gas units are rather weak by modern...

    Frigidaire CTI-103 vs CTI-130.

I’ve seen plenty of listings for the Frigidaire CTI-103, but I have never, ever seen a CTI-130.  The brochures from 1954 mention the 130, so I know it’s supposed to exist.  But the brochures have no pictures, and all they say is that the 130 is large 103.   Does anyone here know enough about...

    Lindon's Wholesale Furniture and Appliances.

I just stumbled across this incredible scan of a furniture and appliance catalog from 1958.  The scan is broken out into sections, with separate pdfs for kitchen, laundry, vacuum cleaners, etc.  It’s really fascinating...

This looks really nice, from 1965.  The seller has this on a three-day auction, so hurry up!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Custom-Imperial-Fridgidaire-Stove-/321772776928?

’70s Frigidaire range, yellow, with ye olde woodgraine trimme.

I know nothing about these later Frigidaire ranges, but this one looks nice and clean.  Any notion of the year and model?  From the pictures, I don’t see the plaque inside the drawer door that is supposed to have this information.  Do later models have that plaque somewhere else...

    Maytag Washers, ’65 - ’66

The change in appearance between the ’65 and ’66 Maytag washers and dryers is obvious, but I’m wondering what changed on the inside.  Were the model years dramatically different, or just cosmetically different?
