I don't know about everyone else but a hot water power rinse would not be a strong selling point with me. The shape of the control panel reminds me of an Apex and the agitator and tub of a Thor.

    Combo in Bachelor In Paradise

I was watching the 1961 Bob Hope film "Bachelor In Paradise" the other night and was trying to figure out what brand of machine Bob over sudsed and flooded his house with suds. It looks like a sunny yellow Maytag combo. Has anyone seen this movie and can identify the machine?

I always get a kick out of seeing Margaret Lindsay in the old Crosley ads. I've ween here in a number of old Warner Bros. movies with the likes of James Cagney, etc. She was a fine actress. I wonder of there are any clips from "The Crosley TV show?

    Early 50's ABC-O-Matic

I was watching the 1955 film "The Desperate Hours" with Humphrey Bogart and Fredric March the other night and spotted what appears to be an early 50's ABC washer in the laundry room of March's house. It had the same window lid and lid handle that Robert Unimatic's 49 model has and same front...

Who made this Caloric washer? It looks like a Zenith from the same period.

Washers on The Andy Griffith Show

I was watching the episode where Aunt Bee won all the appliances on a quiz show and noticed the washer & dryer were brown RCA Whirlpools circa 1965 but I was trying to figure out what make the coin-op washers were on the episode that Andy opened a coin laundry. They were pink, had a round window...

Good heavens! A Frigidaire after it was raped, pillaged, and plundered by WCI! Sacrilege!

I'm surprised this Hotpoint washer has a safety lid switch for the spin cycle. I didn't think Hotpoint began using that until the late 60's on he models with the blue spiral agitators which were the last REAL Hotpoints before they became rebranded GEs.

This looks like a rebadged Norge timeline to me. Curiously, I was watching an old episode of Adventures Of Superman with George Reeves the other day and this very same washer and dryer was in the episode. They were in the basement of Jimmy Olsen's apartment wheee he had a chemistry lab set up...

    SWAPPING OUT MACHINES

After four years of faithful service the 1-18 developed several problems so I moved her out and hooked up the old 1962 Maytag in her place. Miss Maytag seems to be getting along fine with the late 60's solid tub Speed Queen. The Maytag will probably need a new water valve at some point because...

Is this a 57 or 58? I can't remember which year Hotpoint introduced the coaxial tranny where there is a pause between agitate and spin as opposed to jumping right into spin a la Speed Queen and Maytag AMP like Robert's 56 Hotpoint does.

Gotta love the little boy wearing his mom's apron. I'm sure he loves operating her Westinghouse Laundromat. He's probably a member of our club now!

    NEW ADDITIONS

Thanks to the generosity of Stephen Kirkpatrick I have three new washers to my collection. A 1962 Maytag TOL milk chocolate brown, a white late 60's Speed Queen (I think this might be the first year of the reversing motor and clockwise spin), and a poppyseed red Frigidaire 1-18. It's so much fun...

This ad is disgusting. If "her boys" didn't want to change their underwear everyday it probably means they don't bathe or shower everyday either. There's obviously a lot of smelly testosterone in that house. "Now If I could only get them to wear pajamas at night". What a great line!

The boy wearing the super-starched apron is priceless. He must have surely grown up to be a member of this club!

    Atlanta wash-in

Stephen Kirkpatrick is hosting a little ole Southern wash-in at his house this Sunday afternoon. Bring your dirty drawers around 1 pm.

    My vintage washers

Thanks to club member Steve Kirkpatrick I'm building a collection. I now have three vintage washers and two dryers, both gas. An early 60's Maytag in dark brown and a 1970 Lady Kenmore. Here are a few pics of the washers I snapped last weekend.

Everytime I see one of these old ads for a WCI counterfeit Frigidaire I want to hurl! Absolute blasphemy! A White- Westinghouse disguised as a Frigidaire. Oh, the shame of it all!
