Looking at the Maytag coin-op ad got me to wondering. Did anyone here ever own/run a self-service laundry in the 1960s-1980s time frame, and if so what were the most popular brands of top-loading washers actually used, and how profitable were they? Thanks.

Does anyone know why GE stuck with the top-loading design for so long, especially since Kitchen Aid used the front-loading design from the beginning? Seemed very primitive to me. And I'm guessing there was an impeller at the bottom rather than a spray-arm in these things.

This looks like something you would want on a houseboat or vacation home, but necessarily as a daily driver. I wonder if they worked as well as the Westinghouse Spacemates.

The Hotpoint model shown looks TOL. Is/has anyone used this model as a daily driver?
