    DOA Speed Queen Pump

With everyone's help here - and thank you! - I got the belts for the Speed Queen. The pump died. I knew it was going which is why I didn't want to touch it, but really? It died just as I was spinning to make sure there was as little water as possible.... Sheesh. So, given that the pumps are...

Wow a Pink Dial Trimline! and, uh, HELP!

I found this at a thrift shop for next to nothing. Even the line cord is PANK! It dials out, it receives calls. Speech and listening quality are OK. But - somebody disconnected the ringer (wires are carefully tucked away) and I have no idea where they go to turn it back on. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Speed Queen Solenoid Drive Belts?

I'm happy to say that (largely owning to the help we got here, and parts from Eugene) the Speed Queen timer is still chugging along perfectly. May be the only one with old 'dogs' on earth. Now that I have a brass replacement for them, they'll never fail. But, what appears to be the original...

Got this Scott Fetzer refurbished Kirby $10

At our local Goodwill. With a brand new hose and a gigantic box of Kirby goodies. This, my dahlinks, is what a Dual Sanitronic 80 looked like fresh out of the box in 1968.

    Speed Queen Happy Update

Again, thanks to all. We finally had time to open up the front, the schematic shows it's functionally a DA1090 with the full five temperature. That makes life a LOT easier. Done five loads today, so far, so good. The pump seems loud, but fast. There doesn't appear to be a brake? Oh, and, yes...

We're working on a vintage Speed Queen which doesn't exist

First off, a million-billion thanks to Lorain Furniture - without Eugene, we'd be (insert un-ladylike term which would send some here to the fainting couches). His part came fast and was exactly the right one. Now, we have found a second one - same non-existent type of model number and...

    Two Filter-Flo Machines!

One is in near perfect cosmetic condition, the other has very much been rode hard and put away stinking and wet. The pretty one has its clutch stuck in LOW speed. Yes, I know that isn't possible and I'm the only person to ever experience it and, no, it's not the motor. So - I can't figure out...

THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING - KDS15 VARICYCLE by HOBART

The holidays are coming - so the KDS15 is upstairs and ready!

Pleasant Surprise and a bit of a Quandary

Friend of mine volunteers at the local Habitat Restore. I don't at this one for reasons which are more for Dirty Laundry, so whenever he calls and says he has something in PANK! I take notice. Their management had rejected it and it was headed for the scrap bin. Would I like them? He doubted...

    New Front for Trash Compactor

I had some Pank! left over after the Pankification of the Whirlpool DD (and, again, my thanks to everyone who helped defang that awful dumbed-down water temperature/hot water restriction). We've cycled through every colour except avocado (hate, hate, HATE that colour) for this compactor. No...

    Starting to turn PANK!

This is the beginning of the PANK-ening of the Whirlpool WTW5540SQ0. I'm going to try to find someone who does powder coating for the lid and top. I'll spray paint the plastic end brackets. No way to do the control panel, my skill set isn't anywhere near good enough for that. The kick-in at...

    Green (not avocado) Hoover Spirit

I have no idea when this vacuum was built, clearly it was a very budget model. However - the motor is quite good (two-stage? It appears to have another turbine under the fixed vanes of the first), robust windings, well balanced and hefty brushes. The plastic (which is everything) is quite...

    Whirlpool WTW5540SQ0 Temperature Regulation

This must have been one of the last of the DDs. I picked it up in really good condition for $5.00. Seller said water just poured out of the bottom. Of course it did, both hoses to the pump had been disconnected and there was a note on one of them to hook them back up before use. Probably not...

Real Customer Service and Thanks, Thomas Ortega

I've praised our Mega clothes spinner here before. We've used it an enormous amount and been happy with it. When a cable snapped last week, we wrote to Thomas to ask about replacement parts. He responded immediately and a new spinner just arrived on Saturday! That's customer service. Wish...

Updating safety on Presto Pressure Cookers

Most of my go-to pressure cookers use one of two lids. The Model 40 series (the non-jiggler ones which work the same as the high-end European style of today) and the C014B series (the earliest stainless steel using the new style we still use today). (Interestingly, the earliest stainless steel...

    GSD900 with interesting failure mode

Now that appliances from the 1980's are in their late 20's-30's I suppose it makes sense that some of the fatigue failures one reads about on high-use items are starting to creep in. Still, I've never seen this one before, not even on GE Dishwashers from the late '50s.   About four years ago...

The Laundry Alternative Mega just arrived

One of the few European appliances I have genuinely missed here in the 'States is a spin-dryer. The vintage ones, though excellent, are nearly impossible to find over here and the first spin-dryers on offer were outrageously overpriced and poorly made. This one got good reviews (the first...

    Wow. Kirby and Flair

What an interesting weekend. Got the doors balanced on the 1963/4 Custom Imperial Flair. Got the burner control ordered for the missing one - and it's still in production!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or, at least, still available as a current product, not NOS. Lots of cleaning and...

    1967 Custom Imperial Flair

Drove a few hundred miles yesterday, picked this up - she works. OK, we need a new heat regulator for the temp controlled burner, but that's all that's not working. Even the meat thermometer system is running!!!!!!!! Oh, and the 110V burner got replaced with 220V at some time, nothing new...

    A208

Some minor problems - the control knob doesn't engage the timer dial, the most pressing, but she works and the buttons aren't rubbed off! Got her for $25 at the local ReStore...the hateful supper "Christian" was off today. She mettalled a 1958 Imperial French door Frigidaire last week...
