    Eco-friendly HE powders?

Does anyone (like Seventh Generation) make a powder detergent for HE (front-load) washers? Whole Foods Market carries an HE liquid, but not powder.

Laundry machines from home center stores

A word of warning to those thinking of purchasing laundry machines (or other major appliances) from "home center"-type stores; you may be in for an unpleasant surprise regarding delivery. Note beforehand that I am a well-pleased owner of a Whirlpool Duet pair which I purchased from Sears back in...

    Good HE detergents

For the longest time, I've been using Tide He powder in my frontload machines (I now own a Duet HT). However, I'd like to go to something more environmentally friendly. Does Ecover make a He powder, and if so, does anyone have experience with it-is it any good? What about other brands?

    :"Free & Clear he detergents?

I'm trying to interest my mother in buying a Duet washer. She uses liquid "free & clear" detergents (without perfumes or dyes) in her old Maytag top-loader. Does anyone make a powder-type "free & clear" detergent? Is it any good?

    Ironrite roll cover

Does anyone know where I can order a replacement cloth roll cover for my 1948 Ironrite Model 85? The site <ironrite.com> is apparently non-functional, and Google doesn't turn up any leads other than e-Bay.

    Duet track record?

As the (so far) very pleased new owner of a Whirlpool Duet HT washer (and matching dryer), how long has the Duet HT been in production? I did as much research as I could (including on the cost of key replacement parts such as the circuit boards), but I didn't turn up any information on how long...

    Whirlpool Combo

I watched the spin video of the Whirlpool Combo (in the Cyber-Museum); doesn't seem that the spin speed is much over 200 r.p.m. I've heard that the G.E. combos were like that as well. Is this true? If so, it must have taken forever to dry the sopping-wet clothes! The first washer I "practiced"...

    Tough decision

I just put myself through a rather expensive discovery process; in replacing my prematurely-failed "Frigimore" (bought in '99 or '00, bad tub bearings) I thougt, without researching, that "Maytag has always been good, so they must still be." I bought a Neptune 6700, and a 9700 dryer. Soon found...

    Frigidaire

I've really enjoyed reading all the threads about the Frigidaire machines. Though I'm a front-loader guy, I grew up in a family with, at one time, three (!) Frigidaires! Actually, the first machine I remember dates from when I was about three, and I believe was an early G.E. automatic. When I...

Did I do the right thing?

I've been a lifelong fan of front-load washers-probably a childhood thing acquired from watching a front load Philco-Bendix (I think it was a Duo-Matic) like it was a tv set at the age of about six. Plus, I could never get my mom to buy one (still can't). However, I've had bad luck with the...
