Just got in a VMW with a TON of problems

There's a reason most refurbishers are targetting GE top loads over Whirlpools for refurbishments. The cacophony of failures a VMW can have are so wide, its hard to get them refurbished and back on the market at a price level that makes sense in the refurbished market. Sadly, the Whirlpool...

When to my friends house and went into his laundry room

There's a major recall out for all makes/models of Whirlpool VMW machines from 2023 - 2024 (all months) with that issue. The integrated pressure sensor is bad and the board needs replaced.

Maytag Machines After Whirlpool Buyout - What Remained?

Hi everyone, I am working on a documentary regarding the entire history of Maytag from 1983-2006 and then post-buyout. I think I have everything I want "Done" but I still have a few eras that I am trying to really understand and flesh out. It really surrounds the products Maytag offered right...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

I'll have a documentary out later this year on the history & downfall of Maytag but in my opinion (or research into the matter): Maytag's descent into poor appliances is a bit of a slippery slope in that everyone wants to point at something like, say, the Neptune, but the history is a bit...

    WM4370 drain pump died

Should be able to loosen the screws behind the unit and push it rearward to access the front interface panel to get front access w/o unstacking. It'll be a tight fit but absolutely doable.

    my fear

mark_wpduet - bugs @mark_wpduet - The issue is that the VMW design has been cheaped significantly in the history of the design (as many products are). The original VMW's had cast metal hubs (W10324651) with locking spanner nuts from the old Direct Drive systems. That got phased out in favor...

    my fear

They have a service bulletin for the pump. The area where it mates with the tub is under-re-enforced due to thin wires. You'll need to replace the wire harness or splice the wires together, then use a hanger to re-enforce the area.

When did GE start to go bad?

The irony is that GE's GTW3-4-5 series is probably the best garbage-tier washer right now, or is fighting the WT61** for that honor given how far Maytag/WP VMW's have fallen (and I don't think any of us want to really suggest a Midea/Samsung at the time). But about the Hydrowave - its an...

    Ideal Washer Control Panel

Pierre has my answer. Kenmore Elite 80 series top. I'd consider replacing the knobs with something like a stainless steel, or the Whirlpool ebony/stainless VMW knobs they used between (I think) 2013-2016. I would then integrate the lid of a WT8400CB from LG - its sleek, stylish, and looks...

Newer Whirlpool washers known for control board failures?

As someone else posted it, there's a massive pressure sensor issue that's caused Whirlpool to issue one of the biggest service bulletins ever for their VMW systems. The pressure transducer is failing on the model, causing infinite drain situations. I think my company authored a solution to...

What is the most reliable top load washing machine in 2025 (besides Speed Queen)?

For regular consumer-level top loads, LGs tend to be pretty good across the board. They have a direct drive system that simplifies a few components, and its a feature across-the-board. Consumer Reports has them always ranked #2nd behind Speed Queen for washer reliability, which sounds about...

Is it over for Whirlpool ?

@washerdude - you're correct. Whirlpool still makes the 3360629 transmissions for Direct Drives. Techs still buy and replace them and due to horriffic manufacturing tolerances by Whirlpool, they're nearly unusable or may last 3-5 years if the consumer is lucky. You're far better off to rebuild...

Is it over for Whirlpool ?

Hi John, I am sorry you don't like my videos, but kindly I am unsure why you'd say the video is rediculous, but (also) you didn't watch it, either. Whirlpool's revenue is down to levels that are pre-Maytag acquisition. Its not that they have had a COVID bust, but their 2024 revenues put them...

NorgeTags (PAV) vs. AmanaTags (SAV) - which had more issues?

Hi all, first time poster long time listener. Im working on an article about the history of Maytag and its downfall into the Whirlpool purchase. The area I'm still researching and oddly closest today is in just before the acquisition. I know the Neptunes had huge issues, but I've been hearing...

    9-Millionth Maytag Washer - 16mm Film

Dang that's awesome. Would I be allowed to use a clip or two from that for an upcoming project I'm working on regarding the history of Maytag? Awesome work.

    EPA Reversals

I actually had a conversation with an engineer with one of the major companies about why modern machines are so poorly made. He was very honest with me. He said that quite literally, the corporate guys put a # of years that they want the design to last for. That's literally it. They could...

    EPA Reversals

@chetlaham - The sad part is that since all American washers run on 120VAC, the heating element is a bit limited I fear. I would imagine that given that the circut we all use are 120v/15AC that there may not be enough room for a proper heater like what the Europeans have. Inversely, Asko does...

    GE GFW450 SSm1WW Front loader-stinky clothes complaint

Often times using oddball unscented detergents will build up residual soaps hidden in the machine away from the Microban components, and allow nasty stuff to build up. I bet the Affresh tabs took off a few layers of crud, but their lack of use + continual use of crappy detergents have brought it...

    NEW WASHERS?

Although they aren't new, Asko is supposedly coming to the US market in a much more prominent way, I've heard. You also have the possibility Bosch may buy out Whirlpool too. That would yield a huge shakeup on the market as Bosch would probably want to come in and re-design their portfolio from...

    Comparing Available Powder Detergents

Has anyone done a comprehensive test on the list here using a set criteria for how good or bad any of these detergents are? I know its been done on washers but... Maybe not dishwashers? If not, I could take a crack at it later this year.
