I was told it is over 30 years (old serial number A107 01 076005YF).

The shaft falls all the way out. There is nothing attached to the top of the shaft. There are grooves in the the top of shaft where I guess the pinion fits. Looks like I will be buying a new washer. I do not believe it its worth what it may cost to have someone rebuild the transmission...

A repairman also thought it indicated transmission issues. Is it worth repairing? If not any suggestions on an acceptable replacement. I was looking at a maytag but I am concerned after learning whrlpool purchased maytag and some posts expressed displeasure.

I am following thread 25520 and now I am having trouble removing the plastic agitator. There is a small hole in the base of the agitator. How do I remove agitator to get to the shaft and possible set screw?

If I remove the belts the long shaft to the agitator will fall out. Is there a set screw that holds the shaft in place?

replaced belts still will not spin. shaft falls out and appears to have scrach at top. Is the shaft supposed to slide out? How is shaft held in place? How do I repair?
