The vacuum repair guy: an endangered species

There is a reputable vac repair shop that has been in business for over 50 years in the next city. They are a Miele dealer and some sewing machine brand dealer too. People bring their vacs for repair or get bags and belts for miles around and because they are honest and straightforward, they get...

    History of Automotive Side Windows

First vehicle I had with power windows is my '81 Corvette I bought in '84 that I still have. My '65 Galaxie had the crank open front vent windows and every ones since were crank ones with no vent windows. Now my Silverado has power everything that I do find quite convenient.

Dishwashers losing popularity in US Homes???

Well, If my dishes stay in the dishwasher for up to a week, they will be rinsed off, otherwise the dishwasher will stink. Disposer is not an option on a septic system.

I am an old fart and load my 31 year old Whirlpool packed full and run it once a week. Washing dishes by hand is not something I want to ever do

Those bring back memories. There was a Conniseur range in one house I owned and the double ovens were nice to have for cooking for a crowd.

my new and much more simpler coffee maker

Any heat generating appliance should be UNPLUGED when not in use. Found that out when my old Proctor Silex coffeemaker was recalled due to chances of fire. My next door neighbor is a retired fire chief and he said you would not believe the amount of home fires any heat generating device can...

How long is too long to dry in a domestic dryer

We had an ancient Bendix gas dryer that Broiled the clothes when I was a kid. My mother wanted the timer set for 1 hour and clothes came out way too hot. My Maytag set at Less Dry will usually dry a load fully in 30-45 minutes and the clothes are cooled down.

    Consolette stereos: 1958-74...

I have a pair of huge 1988 Bose Interaudio SA-1000 that reproduce every note perfectly and can crank. I did refoam the woofers several years ago. I also have a pair of 1972 KLH Model 6 speakers in my rec room. Both will rattle the neighbors windows. Refoaming is easy and the kits are available...

    WHAT would YOU do?

Where I live, the main problem is crows that will rip open every big green trash bag left out. So in this town, all trash must be in covered trash cans. A few years ago I left out a green bag with just cardboard in it and the day of pickup it was ripped open and scattered. Crows around here are...

    Thanksgiving

You did explain it in full, Matt. My over the air stations are limited by NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS and their sub-stations. I do have a ROKU and Spotify is my only subscription for the best sounding digital music. Plus a ton of free networks ROKU gives you. When Directv upped my bill to over $100 with...

    Thanksgiving

Yes, Matt, now that my family is gone also, I just heated up the free senior dinner and it being so cold outside, stuck inside with the tv. Why does every network just have to have constant sports on. If someone wants to watch those games, pay that expensive ticket price and go see it. Networks...

Buying a new Toilet this weekend - Any advice?

In 1995 I completely redid this place and put in a 1.6 Elger that was getting to the point that you needed to flush twice. Replaced it with a cheap Aquasource from Lowes that flushes with a big woosh. My problem is the well water is very high iron content that stains easily. I tried everything...
