What were your childhood interests in appliances, machinery, etc?

Record players, tape recorders and movie projectors. Something hypnotic about the rotating motion and the mechanics, especially of a record changer.

"The Mega-Brands That Built America": They've GOT to include Kodak and Polaroid

Well, just saw the opening credits and the montage of products included a Polaroid SX-70 camera and a Kodak Instamatic. Remains to be seen if they’re paired in the same episode. Updates as they happen!

    New electric stove

Consider induction… … especially if you can budget $1000 and at least half your cookware is induction compatible. Our Frigidaire has been trouble free and we scored it for $998.00.

    What? No "Touch-N-Cook"?

I stand corrected.   Actually, I'm sitting.  I based my information on the serial number and manufacturing date label.  The stove had the "Designed In, Engineered In, Assembled in AMERICA" label on the oven door.   It just didn't specify which state.

    Good Electric Cooking Burner

Save up a grand . . .   . . . and take the ultimate plunge.  Especially if you're replacing an electric.   Not an affiliate link. No kickback for me. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Frigidaire-30-in-4-Element-Front-Control-Induction-Range-in-Stainless-Steel-with-Air-Fry-FCFI3082BS/333867593

Seven-Segment LED, colors that seem to be in and out of fashion

The definitive bedside drum clock . . .   . . . was the Sankyo Digital 401, even though it lacked a lighted display.  The USA model was driven by a 120V 60Hz AC motor which gave it accuracy that lived up to their slogan "Never a Second Away From the Exact Time".

Seven-Segment LED, colors that seem to be in and out of fashion

Lest we forget . . .   Most split-flap (or flip) clocks and electronic digital clocks from the same era were more accurate than today's retro recreations because the clock motor or timing circuit was controlled by the 60 Hz AC power line frequency, not a crystal oscillator.

    What? No "Touch-N-Cook"?

"Flowing Heat®" sucked.   No, literally.   Instead of using a blower, the dryer had an exhaust fan so the air was "inhaled" over the heat source instead of blown across.  The idea was to disperse the heat more effectively for more uniform drying and less likelihood of high heat setting in...

    What? No "Touch-N-Cook"?

My Frigidaire induction stove. . . . . . was made in Charlotte Province, People’s Republic of North Carolina.

    What? No "Touch-N-Cook"?

Frigidaire has an innovations timeline on their website as part of their "Daire To Expect More" ad campaign.  Conspicuously absent is any mention of the Touch-N-Cook range, cooktops, wall ovens and microwave ovens.   When you search Home Depot for single-oven 30-inch induction ranges, over...

Induction stoves: GE joins the Under $2,000.00 Club

Two, actually. The soon to be discontinued Convection Bake model and its Air Fry replacement.

Induction stoves: GE joins the Under $2,000.00 Club

It's not even on the GE appliances website . . .   . . . so it might be a dealer-specific model sold only at Home Depot and specialty appliance stores.  It's not at Lowe's or Best Buy, not even as "out of stock" or "back-ordered".

Induction stoves: GE joins the Under $2,000.00 Club

With a model that appears to be made in the same factory as some Forno, Kenmore and Rangaire induction stoves.  An easily customized configuration from China that boutique brands like GE Profile and Cafe can offer cheap without actually manufacturing them.  ...

    T-Mobile High-Speed 5G Home Internet

Wow, has it really been almost 3 years?   I watched a new cell tower go up a quarter-mile away from home as the crow flies and apparently it's the tower I'm now connected to.   When this speed test was run, the TV was streaming 4K video from the Roku Ultra, Firefox on the MacBook Air was...

    A cryptic email from Polaroid

Basically, it's a more compact rebirth of . . .     . . . the Sun 660 Sonar Autofocus:   4-zone sonar autofocus. Folding flash assembly that fires in all lighting conditions (unless overridden). Uses ISO 640 film.         https://www.polaroid.com/en_us/cameras/flip-camera

    A cryptic email from Polaroid

The company making Polaroid analog cameras and film is the direct descendant of The Impossible Project, the company started by Florian "Doc" Kaps to bring back integral film for Polaroid 600 and SX-70 cameras as well as i-Type film for the new cameras with internal battery power.  It took a...

    A cryptic email from Polaroid

With an equally cryptic image.     Recently, they've been circumspect about bringing back peel-apart film but it's possible the apple (which has a peel) could be hinting that they may have changed their mind.  The emphasis on "analog" rules out some sort of alliance with Apple, even with...
