Safe rust removal from range top

I have a 1955 GE Liberator. In some areas, the enamel on the rangetop looks a little thin and scratched. In one of these areas we recently developed a few small rust stains. I am not sure if it is rust on the surface from something placed on top, or if the rust is emanating from the parent metal...

Large oven bake element help needed

Just a follow-up for anyone who cares... I ordered a WB44X5099 for my 1955 GE Liberator large oven bake element. After removing the original ceramic block connector in the back of the oven the new element fit perfectly and installed easily. No wiring or mounting modifications, other than the...

Large oven bake element help needed

So if I want to change to a direct wired element Do I simply remove the ceramic receptacle and drill new holes for mounting the new style element backing plate? Then just use self-tapping screws?

I need help identifying a replacement bake large oven element for my vintage GE range (1955 Liberator, SN 1J408W1M3). Range pics attached. The GE Parts Manual that I downloaded from this site (dated 1974) says the original element PN was WB44X126 (236V). However, when I look that up on the...

I think I am finally going to jump in

The 1955 GE manuals I downloaded here do not mention a meat probe. I noticed the "U" was missing from the decoder too, but the "M" and "408" are good indicators. In any event, I am enjoying it a ton and looking forward to learning more and finding ways to restore as many features as I can. Thanks.

I think I am finally going to jump in

It was a little hard to read... But the SN appears to be 1J408W1M3. According to the book I downloaded here, the "M" says it is 1955. I did download all applicable 1955 GE books available here, including the parts catalog. I know that the Auto Calrod burner works....but I have not played with...

I think I am finally going to jump in

Actually...I was pleasantly surprised The couple selling the range were in their 40s and were really enjoying their 1955 home. The rest of the kitchen looked like a time capsule and they obviously understood the value of keeping it that way. I do think they are moving on to a more modern range...

I think I am finally going to jump in

Yeah...picture shows the large bake element missing. Hoping I can find one. Seems like I should be able to. I will learn more once I get to see it up close tomorrow. I have been looking for a double oven vintage range for some time. We have a perfect spot for a 40 inch range. Plus it will look...

I think I am finally going to jump in

A family locally is selling what I believe is a 1955 GE Liberator range. It needs a bake element in the large oven and a broil element in the small oven. Pretty clean otherwise. They say everything else works fine. Going to go see it tomorrow. They are only asking $150. What do you all think...

Admiral Range in Portland, OR area

Saw this range locally on Craigslist. Anyone know the year? Based upon some other pics I saw on the internet I was thinking 49 or 50, but what the heck do I know. I noticed the cluster of four surface element control knobs, does that mean it uses one of those timer mechanisms like some of the...
