I made a tool to fit either side of the nut into the little grooves, fixed to a long bar and it spun off pretty easy. It needed a strip down because of all the bitsiI listed before... all the electrics were shot as the old rubber coving the wiring has perished, the spin can bearings need...

Hi slowspin66, I'm stripping it down to overhaul it but sadly the outer spin can is beyond redemption, the direct drive cast iron pulley had a crack in it, the internal wiring is shot (although I could repair that) so it's had it really!

Thnaks for responding Darren, that was my next move to be honest.... I thought I'd check before attacking it with an open flame! It has been stuck on there since the 60's so I respect it's reluctance to move. I shall try it next time I'm in the workshop.

Hi chaps, I bet at least one one of you will know that answer! I need to remove the spin can from the outer tub, I've got the can nut removed but can't remove the can itself, I'm guessing it's mounted on a tapered shaft? Any tips to get it freed up? Thanks Ed
