Kitchenaid Dishwasher: soap dispenser door jammed by soap in spring

Been scraping soap scum off the "rim" that seals the lid to the dish. I think there is scum buildup on the BACKSIDE of the lid, binding it with friction. Need to remove it to get to the backside, I think, if I know I can get it back together. I think the spring will "unwind" if I remove it...

Kitchenaid Dishwasher: soap dispenser door jammed by soap in spring

One expects problems with the dispenser door to be due to the bimetallic switch. But in this case, soap powder has completely gummed up the spring to the left door. I can take a wire brush to it, but I'd like to disassemble it for access to the shaft. Its held on with a hollow cotter pin thru...

Trick installing dishwasher motor assy & gasket?

Still working on getting my 1981 KitchenAid (by Hobart) KDI-19 dishwasher back together http://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?46176__0#start_46176.676587 Not succeeding in getting the motor/pump & mounting plate gasket into place. What's the trick? Tried putting the...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

Not succeeding in getting the motor housing gasket into place. What's the trick? Tried putting the gasket around the motor assy and pushing, but no go. So placed the gasket & tried angling the motor assy down & in; also no good. Is this a brute force job or what? Can't get leverage...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

OK I'm guessing that the Touch must touch the shaft flat when you slide it down the shaft, and that the Clear must NOT touch. Now on to the top impeller. The gauge passes when I slide it into the right side as illustrated, but the left side drags on the housing. This could be due to the...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

Not sure how to use the Touch part of the drain impeller clearance gage. If I orient the T side down, and slide the gauge down the motor shaft... I cannot tell if it touches the shaft "flat" first or the plastic "floor" of the housing. When it touches the flat, I can't see if it is touching...

Dishwasher - small holes in tub under gasket

Continuing the repair of my Kitchenaid (by Hobart) KDI-18. Cleaned all the brown gook away from the well, and discovered one area under the pump mount gasket with 3 small holes. Another area has a large pit, and some blush rust on the opposite side, so there must be micro-cracks there. The...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

Re rebuilding -- I removed the 4 long bolts. How do I separate the ends? Will both of the "cast metal" housing ends come off of the "coil & plate" center, or only one end? I need to get a library book on how to rebuild small motors; I'm visual & need pictures. *** " The replacements use a...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

OK, the people at www.appliance-parts-experts.com gave me the phone number to the factory Whirlpool/Kitchenaid parts center: 800-253-1301 and they still have the original parts numbers on their system. They said that the motor part number in my book is now 4711686. They don't have any more...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

Well, I just set the pump into the well without the gasket. Maybe the gasket raises things up another fraction... Distance from mounting hole to the floor is 5 3/4". This replacement motor might be a tight fit... or I could cut a hole in the floor; even if there's a joist below that would get...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

And the height of the Emerson motor seems to be around to 6". My motor is 5" to the top of the pump mounting bracket. The floor is 6 1/2" under the metal lip of the pump well. I really don't know if it will fit -- might have to re-install it to find out how low it hangs.

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

Just found that motor at another site & says its OEM part number 560612 http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Circulation-and-Drain-Pump-Motor/4171686/560612 Also the cited motor has an extra (white) wire which mine does not have. Is this just for making it spin in the other direction, so I...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

Dan - the motor in the eBay photo has a different looking mounting bracket than mine. OTOH the bolt pattern & centers might be the same, I can't tell. It would be sensible for them to have the bolt patterns always the same though. It appears that the bolt holes are further from the shaft than...

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

The shaft is locked. Only unique things are 1) the pattern of the 4 bolt holes for attaching the pump 2) the pattern of the 3 studs which the retaining clips hook over But might this not be a standard sort of motor end plate?

Rebuild Hobart KD-18 motor? Replace with?

I think the motor is locked up on my Kitchenaid KDI-18 dishwasher. Continuity is about 1 Ohm on the leads, and nothing to ground. The Hobart parts guy says they don't make this motor anymore but it might be rebuildable. Maybe just bearings. Don't know about availability of anything else it...

Shaft seal install gauges for KitchenAid KDI-19

Its not draining properly. I filled the sump, looked for gross leaks, then ran a cycle. It had a lot of water -- lots more than what I poured in -- filling the bottom. Gallon and a half to 2 gal. Checking the drain hoses for clogs, but I'm wondering if the larger diameter drain impeller...

Shaft seal install gauges for KitchenAid KDI-19

The Hobart impeller is a larger diameter than the one in the machine. There is a Sears parts sheet in my files so it may have been replaced in the past. The current 3rd part seal kit impeller is the same diameter as the one I'm taking out. But the Hobart part more fully fills the diameter of...

Shaft seal install gauges for KitchenAid KDI-19

    >The gauge is not a necessity but makes the process easier and you don't have to put the whole pump together to work on it.With the gauge, you can leave the motor in the machine and work completely from inside the tank. > I don't understand... looks like all I have to do is replace the parts I...

Shaft seal install gauges for KitchenAid KDI-19

I have the Hobart seal kit 00-435102- and it has the shim washers but does not have the gauges. Does the washer that fits on the underside of the impeller want to have the metal side exposed or the rubber side?
