I always use grease on the speed reduction pulley shaft as opposed to oil since oil has a tendency to go MIA in that particular application. So far, never had a problem with that in my 7 going on 8 years experience with the Maytag HOH’s.
Believe the bearings on Maytag HOH’s are Oilite bearings...
Honestly, the Speed Queen was sort of a copy with corners cut. A Speed Queen is engineered to last 10,400 cycles while Maytags lasted beyond that, probably closer to 15,000+ cycles or 16,000+ cycles.
“Very hard on belts”
Huh, my Maytag A806 still has it’s original belts and still working fine.
I remember you even mentioned on how “Maytags went to the grave with their original belts and pump” awhile back.
Dryers in the US had door switches from the very beginning, was more so a convenience feature since all early dryers only had timed drying, the dryness had to be checked manually for some items since there weren’t temperature selections on some models.
There may have been a couple out there...
One reason why lid switches were added was not only for safety, but on some machines it allowed you to pause the machine by opening the lid for a soak, closing it to resume the cycle.
Not only a safety feature, but more so of a convenience and feature built-in as standard.
Not only that, but I just wasn’t interested into anything risky or dangerous when I was younger, still not interested in doing anything risky or dangerous years later.
‘Risky’ means different things to different people, but the only risky things I’m into is experimenting with doing things...
Even as a small child over 24 years ago, wouldn’t have even bothered since I knew I wouldn’t fit, even knew I wouldn’t have fit in the dryer either.
One argument I’ll have is smaller capacity machines discourage children since the tubs/drums are smaller.
I would have stopped at the Maytag Dependable Care/Helical washers. Anything with the ‘Maytag’ name can’t compare to a genuine Maytag machine, the Neptunes and Norge built machines all had something conk out which is what led to their demise.
I would go into detail, but unfortunately may get political which may rub people the wrong way.
In a nutshell, the political views (with the exception of a few sane people) people have this site completely contradicts everything they believe in. Not going to entertain it anymore than that.
The only gripe I have about machines that neutral drain is they have a tendency to suds lock, however I haven’t really had that problem on mine since the console I transplanted on came from a 18 pound capacity machine which had a 4 minute neutral drain. Since it’s a 4 minute drain on a smaller 9...
The Maytag push button washers didn’t nearly have as much flexibility as the 806 which was a step down.
The Maytag 806 was like the Whirlpool Imperial in terms of options, had separate temperatures and more wash times available.
Those Norge dryers were literally the most durable dryers ever made, think John mentioned awhile back he had one many years ago that was filled with motors and scrap metal and started up like it was nothing.
This why I’m partial to the belt drive design, get a grand total of 8 spray rinses which helps rinse things out better. Does an even better job on the Super Wash with the partial drain.
