A true three pipe hot water recirculation loop will not affect the cold water. Aftermarket units like the Grundfos work/rely on pushing small amounts of hot water into the cold side...the reason for the undersink mixing valve that hot & cold supplies plug into....at your furthest fixture from...

Grundfos makes a unit that mounts above your WH and its purpose is to give you instant hot water throughout the house.  It's not cheap, but if you don't have the third hot water return line coming back to you WH with a recirculating pump, it might be the way to go for all your fixtures.   Kevin

Why? You think I could get a better service life than 13yrs and counting? I'd be all for it if other FL's can do a better job of washing (especially another Neptune)....not sure that they can. It cleans FAR better with less water than any TL I ever had and made me sold on FL's forever....lol. Kevin

Your bearing theory is probably born from the ill-fated Maytag Neptune series. But those bearings were trashed because the tub seal leaked water on them. I'm one of the few that hung in there with my late 90's Maytag Neptune FL and fixed all its design flaws. That has yielded me 13 yrs of...

Interesting....well the guy that got the machine exchange because of a supposedly rusted drum, said all was well after that with the replacement machine. Rusty pipes could contribute to what could be perceived as a rusty drum. But in his case, it should have happened again if he had rust issues...

Good point about the temp of cold water coming out of the tap. Tap water temps would be substantially high in moderate climates, then northern climates. In a lot of small towns, your water comes from well(s), so it's fairly stable yr around but going through the water system to get to your house...
