1960s Magic Chef Range - Burner Valve Leak

Any Ideas? Has anyone seen these types of valves before? Am I in the right direction? Since I can't find any references for valves that look like this I'm afraid to go in blind and risk damaging the stove by clawing at it with a vice-grip. Happy to post more photos for reference.

1960s Magic Chef Range - Burner Valve Leak

Hi Gang, I've determined that the likely source of the faint gas smell wafting from my vintage Magic Chef stove is one (or two) of the burner valves. I understand that cleaning and re-greasing is often a DIY solution, however I can't find any resources illustrating the process for valves that...

Seeking a '60s Magic Chef Oven Temperature Knob

Thanks for the tips! @oliger I did see that eBay listing -- as mine did not have springs I was hesitant to gamble on those fitting properly... I recently missed out on picking a set off of a stove that was for sale locally (but had already been sent to scrap by the time i messaged them!)...

Seeking a '60s Magic Chef Oven Temperature Knob

Sadly, during my recent "retro-renovation", my contractors threw away a bag with all the knobs for my early '60s Magic Chef stove. I scavenged a set of burner knobs from my grandmother's old Kenmore, but the oven temp knob didn't fit -- recently picked one up on eBay but it was the wrong size D...

    Dented RADARANGE Panel

I scored this Radarange from Facebook Marketplace -- it was shipped via UPS, and despite pretty solid packaging it managed to pick up a dent on the top fo the control panel (and the back of the case--which I'm less concerned about). Thankfully, it's still working and everything else was intact...

60's Magic Chef Oven Pilot Assembly/Feed tube

Thanks for all your responses. I'll try some PB blaster on it tonight and let you know how I make out! The "professional" didn't trust the built-in oven shut-off valve (that I confirmed was working and offered to turn myself) because it was "old". Ridiculous!!

60's Magic Chef Oven Pilot Assembly/Feed tube

The tube needs to come off to unblock the pilot. As he was trying to get the tube off it started to leak and he had to re-tighten it -- I was lead to believe that the tube would almost certainly break when it was removed to clean the pilot. With that said, I'll get out another wrench and give it...

60's Magic Chef Oven Pilot Assembly/Feed tube

Time to start a new thread on my journey to a functional vintage stove! Cleaning the pilot with a toothbrush, needle, and compressed air didn't fix it. I was pretty sure that the pilot tube was clogged. I had previously disconnected it from the safety mechanism and gas was flowing there, but I...

Newly installed '60s gas Magic Chef burners won't light!

@goatfarmer -- Got the oven orifice adjusted, thank you! @oliger -- yep I've got the bottom of the oven out, and I've been adjusting that pilot set-screw, but still can't get it to light! Is there a trick to lighting this?

Newly installed '60s gas Magic Chef burners won't light!

Thanks Oliger, I think yours may be a later model. Mine had the "Red Wheel" oven knob (until my contractor threw away all the knobs!! >__<) -- I believe it's from around the same time as my fridge ~ 1963. I'm able to turn the oven on and manually light the pilot -- after 30 seconds or so the...

Newly installed '60s gas Magic Chef burners won't light!

Hi Oliger, Mine actually has adjustable orifices -- the main-gas orifice for each burner is adjustable, so a few turns with the wrench got 'em in shape -- as for the burner pilots they all had set-screws that made them a cinch to adjust. I suspect my oven orifice/valve is also adjustable...

Newly installed '60s gas Magic Chef burners won't light!

Still no oven pilot! Yes there is an adjustment screw behind the temperature knob, however I don't believe it's the only thing I need to adjust to switch the oven back to natural gas pressure. It certainly adjusts the pilot pressure a bit, but not enough to get it to take! If I turn on the gas...

Early '60s Magic Chef -- can't light pilot?

Hi Friends, Finally began cleaning the oven on my early 60's turquoise Magic Chef stove. Attempted lighting the pilot, but it didn't take. I then noticed that turning the gas knob for the oven didn't seem to produce anything so I think I may have tripped the safety with my lighter? (The...

Newly installed '60s gas Magic Chef burners won't light!

Now we're cookin! I found a beautifully simple pilot-flame-height adjustment screw directly on each pilot (sometimes bright lighting really does the trick) and now all but one are lighting correctly!! Going to try cleaning the last one. While poking at it I found that the burner cap will...

Crisis Averted! Caulked up the door-side of the gasket last night and this morning, no drips!!! Thank you, gentlemen!

Early 60s GE Manual Defrost - Door LEAKING!!

Replacing Insulation? Thanks John. My father suggested replacing the fiberglass insulation in the door with sheet and spray styrofoam to eliminate any space for air to be drawn in and circulate -- and then maybe seal the plastic inner-shell directly onto the door (before re-installing the...

Early 60s GE Manual Defrost - Door LEAKING!!

Gasket-to-Door Seal Guys, thank you so much for your feedback. It is truly a blessing to have a community of enthusiasts at my fingertips to help me pull-off yesterday's kitchen of tomorrow! Based on your feedback I did the following: Paper test: the seal firmly holds paper in place and...

Early 60s GE Manual Defrost - Door LEAKING!!

I've got a 1964ish General Electric manual defrost fridge that I've just installed in my kitchen -- Noticed today that it's leaking water out the bottom openings of the door!!! The only place I see condensation collecting inside is above the freezer compartment on the ceiling. Everything is cold...

Newly installed '60s gas Magic Chef burners won't light!

Almost there.... Thank you gentlemen! I think the pilots are lower than they should be... If I hold the lighter to the pilot and turn on a burner, it works. I think the adjustment for all of the pilots might be somewhere around the oven knob on this one.... The photo attached shows the two...

Newly installed '60s gas Magic Chef burners won't light!

Getting warmer... OK, you are right it was used with propane before. I found that the orifices are adjustable and was able to get the flame height up to the right levels!! Still won't light when i turn the knobs, however... I'm not sure if there is a second pilot at the burners that might need...
