    The Maytag Atlantis

I had an Atlantis about a year ago… And it was one of the better performing washers that I have gotten to experience. However, there is one big thing to be aware of with these machines, and that is that one of the gears in the transmission has a nasty habit of self destructing. It has plastic...

    Maytag Atlantis Timer or Transmission?

And the process for disassembling the rest of the machine. Hope this helps, Thatwasherguy.

    Maytag Atlantis Timer or Transmission?

There are several videos on YouTube covering the pinion gear replacement. I’ve linked one of them. Technically, the tub seal requires a couple of special wrenches to remove it, but I was able to get away with using set of vice grips. The worst part of the job is removing and reinstalling the...

    Maytag Atlantis Timer or Transmission?

Welcome to the forum! I had an Atlantis about a year ago that exhibited those exact symptoms, and the transmission was the culprit. The pinion gear is a known weak link in these machines, as it has small plastic tabs on the side of it that slot into a set of grooves to lock up the transmission...

    Vintage Bendix automatic on Marketplace

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all well. I just saw this machine listed on Marketplace, and figured that it was rare enough to warrant posting here. Thatwasherguy. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1813069579422234/

    Marketplace find

Beautiful! Looks like a 1972-1974 HA806. IIRC, it would have been one of the last ones equipped with a tub light and a timed bleach dispenser. Thanks for posting! Thatwasherguy.

Easy dryer model DRB (or DR8) not heating

I wonder if a Maytag halo of heat restring kit (part number 3-11946) would work. The heaters in those dryers were 4800 watts IIRC. The looped ends of it should fit the lugs on the Easy’s heater box well enough, and it looks like the coils are roughly the same size. Hope this helps...

    2006 Frigidaire Smoke Show!

My 1984 G.E. Mark 27 falls into that category of dead simple. All it has electronic are the heating elements, mechanical oven selector switch, mechanical oven thermostat, infinite switches for the surface elements, neon pilot lights, and the oven light bulb and its associated switch. This one...

    2006 Frigidaire Smoke Show!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I agree, I’m not a huge fan of electronics on stuff like this either, but I feel like this one held up better than most on the market today would. At least this one doesn’t have that resin stuff on it so you can’t service it. I agree, I was honestly surprised...

    2006 Frigidaire Smoke Show!

It’s back, just in time for the holidays! I wasn’t about to let an old friend die that easily, so I got online and found out that my local appliance parts store had a board in stock, so I picked it up, and installed it. I just got through baking a pizza, and everything is working as it should...

    2006 Frigidaire Smoke Show!

Here’s a better view of the carnage. One of the resistors (R-41) decided that it was time for it to fly, and cooked several other things when it got hot. Needless to say, that board is toast (literally!).

    2006 Frigidaire Smoke Show!

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all well. Today, the 2006 Frigidaire range had its first major breakdown in a long time. We were trying to bake some chicken when the Electronic control started beeping. Initially, I thought that it was the timer going off, until I noticed that it was beeping in a...

Would you buy an handmade washing machine?

Wow, talk about a simple design! That machine makes my late 30’s Maytag wringer washer look downright complicated! It’s fascinating, seeing those materials go from rolls of steel and a pile of hardware to a fully functioning washing machine in a matter of minutes. Thanks for sharing! ea56… I...

Another one followed me home today…

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all well. Today, I was given a vintage Sanyo mini fridge for the collection. Unlike my Frigidaire Imperial 43, this one is in immaculate condition, most likely due to its former owners only using it in a college dorm, and on holidays for drinks (although not being...

    Come and get it!

Yes, the 18-23 series machines used the same racks. I’ll be in touch about a pick up date. Thanks, Thatwasherguy.

    Looking forward to this acquisition…

Hi everybody! Hope you’re all well. A few weeks ago, I was fixing a run of the mill modern Whirlpool washer for one of my dad’s coworkers, and his wife asked me for a recommendation on a stacked washer and dryer for a weekend home that they are renovating, so of course, I said Speed Queen, and...

Another beam of sun for the collection…

Thanks for the replies everyone! I’ve been using it for the last couple of weeks or so, and have been loving it. It wound up needing adjustments to both the radiant control (a small hex head screw underneath the right hand handle) and the actuator mechanism (a flat head screw in the center of...

Another beam of sun for the collection…

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all well. Today, I stopped in Goodwill, and had to do a double take when I saw this sitting on the shelf. I’d wanted one of these for a while, but couldn’t justify the high price that they go for online. Needless to say, it quickly followed me home. I’ve ran it for...

    PICKED THIS PAIR UP MONDAY......

Time to get out Chubby Checker and do The Twist! Because that’s the most unapologetic early 60’s appliance score I’ve seen on here in a while! I love the color too. I’ve got a Westy mixer in the collection from about the same time in that color. IMO, Westinghouse made some of the best...
