    New home construction/real estate mkt.

On Tucker Carlson, he reported about the skyrocketing real estate market, and that Wall Street firms like RE speculator Blackrock (et al) are buying up a huge number of houses to turn them into rentals.

    "Hasp" Jars

Hi scoots I dabbled in canning fruits & veg. Since the jars must be boiled before and after filling, the twist-on lids with the single use sealers are probably more effective and safer than clamp jars.

    Glue advice sought

Epoxy would probably be your best choice. Apparently, it can withstand freezing temps without cracking. Since this bracket would not be under much strain, the clear epoxy should work well. If you can remove the freezer door and lay it so the area to be repaired is horizontal, then smear the...

    The 17 Year Periodical Cicadas

Hey combo52 I lived in Nashville the last time those Red-Eyed Buzzbombs emerged from Hell. Nearly impossible to sleep with that racket. Was riding my bike when I took one in the face. It felt like being shot with a pellet gun!

HB Electric Knife sharp, turns on doesn't cut

Hi Sarah Here's a YouTube video (there are several) on how to sharpen the serrated blades on an electric knife. They post a link to order the special tool called a Blocksharpener, not sure the cost, but it ships free. I am not affiliated with this company, nor promote its products (my...

    guacamole

We have an avocado tree in our front yard (abt.30 ft. tall), in Hawaii. It drops avocados on the porch tin roof, sounds like a bomb went off! It produces Haas which are easily twice as big as mainland ones. I'm not a real fan of guac, but the neighbors forage for them regularly.

New member, with a dumb question.

Update The Kenmore hand mixer has arrived. Tested it out in a batch of brownie mix, made with melted dark chocolate squares and mashed banana replacing the oil/butter. Delicious, as always. I love these old '40s & '50s small appliances with motors strong enough to twist your arm off.

Homemade Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Freezer

Hey ea56 That sounds like the recipe from my Better Homes & Gardens cookbook from the '60s. It also has a chocolate version you make by adding Hershey's Chocolate syrup to the mix. Very creamy & delicious.

Thanks too, philcobendixduo & checho That was my first thought, with the beaters tucked in the space behind the tab. But, the little slot underneath should have a keyhole shape for screw or nail heads. Can't wait to plow this tank through some banana bread mix.

New member, with a dumb question.

I just bought a vintage Kenmore hand mixer (116.82800). Just wondering what the heck the tab thing at the front is for (P.S. Its still on its way via USPS). Here's the pix from its Ebay listing: Thanks in advance for your expertise and interest. Frank.
