    AHA! So I dissaembled the rinse reservoir and solenoid and inspected things a little more closely. Turns out the reservoir was filled with a clear thick substance much like liquid hand soap but with a bad almost petrol-like smell. I'm thinking the previous owners did not know what rinse aid is...
