Betty Joan Perske, also known as Lauren Bacall Bogart Robards was born today, 85 years ago.

She is said to be in not-great health, but according to imdb.com, she is still working.

Here's to a classy dame.

It's also Mexican Independence Day today. I'm surprised there isn't more of a ruckus around these parts, but Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal. Go figure.

Lauren Bacall...Ah, now THERE's a real woman!

She will always be the epitome of "classy dame," indeed! Strong, gorgeous, confident and sexy. Never "neurotic," but always cool and in control. And she looked damn fine while she was at it, too.

To me, only Liz Taylor was (possibly) more beautiful, but she represented more the "emotional trainwreck/conniving" side of femininity.

They definitely don't make 'em like Betty Bacall anymore.

Bogart and Bacall . . .

When my mother was young her family had a boat they kept docked at the Newport Beach harbor. For awhile, it was only a few slips away from Bogart and Bacall's boat, and all the kids knew them. Mom said they were nice people who mostly kept to themselves, but every once in awhile they'd have a disagreement which would end in a shouting match while the boat rocked to and fro.

Reporters would occasionally go snooping around and ask the location of the boat, but all the kids liked Bogart and Bacall and would happily give incorrect directions.
