As a photograph it looks fairly unremarkable - a tortoise nibbles at the grass in front of a Boer War prisoner and guard.

Interesting. We just had a 150 year old local one (Butch) go missing here a couple of months ago. Apparently he became a handful or whomever tortoise-napped him didn't know what to do with him and he was returned to his owners. He's been handed down through the generations and had an identifying mark on his shell so they knew it was him. He settled right back into his routine and then went into hibernation as scheduled. A happy ending for all.
