1940? Maytag wringer washer

Hi, I just recently purchased an E model Maytag. First of all does anyone know what kind of grease/oil goes in the end cap of the wringer mechanism? The gasket was shot and when we pulled it apart it was FULL of thick black sticky kind of oil or grease. My husband and I are assuming this was original. It is all cleaned up and ready to put back together, but we have no ideal what kind of lubricant to use. Also, does anyone know where to purchase the goose neck spout, as this one has a pump, but no goose neck. Think we may have to replace the belt also. The serial # on the machine is E179574P. Thank-you

I am not sure about the grease but my old Maytag is your vintage and does leak grease down the leg under the wringer but still works fine. As far as the gooseneck, it is a regular hose connection. There is someone on E-Bay selling one last time I looked or you could fashion one out of an old garden hose. My gooseneck finally broke off and I am going to try to redo it someday but use a piece of garden hose for now and it works fine.

I'm thinking 90W lubricant woukd work, it's been a long time since I've been in a Maytag gearcase.

I think, is your best bet. From my understanding he has a repair shop in up state New York and works on vintage Maytag wringers. I have talked to him on the phone before, and he is very nice, can answer all your questions, and has the service manuals and parts for sale, for Maytage wringers.

On the age, if I'm reading the datecode chart correctly, it looks like it was built in August, 1961.
