my thought

was this was a beautiful design. It's from another era, of course - not like the later 50's designs and early 60's..and yes, that trim piece is awesome. The bottom panel there - what's behind it? I thought it was a meat tray but it's just dark ..so is that part of the refrigeration?

Well, to bad I'm not interested in an old refrigerator. It's just across town from me. Things always show up here I don't want. Thanks for posting though, Phil.

The dark space you speak of, if I'm correct, is a small storage space under the refrigerator. It's been a long time since I've seen one, but I vaguely remember this. It's a non-refrigerated area.

I think Hans is right.  That door appears to have a push-bar rather than a pull handle, a mechanism that I'm pretty sure Frigidaire had abandoned before 1949.

When I was a kid we had an old yellow Kelvinator in the basement that had a similar bin at the bottom.  I presumed it was for items like potatoes and other things that require similar storage conditions.

This is a fancier version of the '47 Frigidaire in my basement. Mine doesn't have the chrome at the bottom, or down the middle of the door. The door handle is also different.

The bottom section tilts out (also removes W/O tools), and conceals the works. It also has a small storage bin attached to the front. I think the model # on mine is DI-7.

Also notice this one has an all porcelain finish, while mine is paint.

some maring in the left quadrant face of door but otherwise...I think this is one of the nicest looking older 50's fridges I've seen(and not the top looking, but something about the lines, trim, finish - just sits right with my eyes, oh well - not to shout an opinion.
