1949 G.E. Electric Sink Dishwasher – Maiden Wash 60 Years Later
You are likely getting to know me and (or be annoyed by) my interest in Dishwashers, especially, Electric Sinks (reference 2009: Thread #20940, 21050, 21962, 22372, 22651) especially Thread #22140 talking about bringing home the Brand New, Never Installed, Never Used 1949 G.E. Electric Sink/Dishwasher, and the 1950 Homart Electric Sink/Dishwasher.
We first saw this G.E. Electric Sink in Gregm’s 2007 Thread #14154 – he had just brought this machine back to Worcester, Massachusetts from Pennsylvania. I came across Greg’s thread on March 1st, and sent him an email asking what had become of this beautiful machine. He wrote back to me “I want to get rid of it” and by the next day, I had agreed to buy it.
Perhaps Robert or Greg might be able to recall more details of how and when this Electric Sink was brought to their attention back in 2007.
After much consideration, and after all, this is my ultimate Dream Machine, I’ve decided to install this Electric Sink in my present Kitchen. So, I began the clean-up process. Mostly, there was some rust inside the cabinet itself that needed to be cleaned up. The porcelain sink and the dishwasher tub are both in fabulous condition and only required some minor cleaning. But, as I had discovered after the machine was back here at home, both the drain stopper and the water valve were missing. A generic G.E. Dishwasher water valve and fittings is a sufficient replacement for the old style valve. And I’ve borrowed the drain stopper from the 1948 Electric Sink Dishwasher. With temporary PVC pipe connected to the drain valve, I was ready to run an initial water test, which happened on June 23.
The following is a slightly edited video of that Maiden Wash for this dishwasher. I DO NOT have video of the wash action looking through a piece of Plexiglas (see my other videos on YouTube for that). I wanted to put this video up on YouTube to document the event, and the cycle operation. The lid opens beautifully at the end of the cycle! I almost wanted to send up Fireworks to celebrate!

We still have a little work to do in preparation for the installation in the Kitchen - here is where the machine will sit. I will post an update when we are finished.
