1950's Hotpoint electric dryer - $50 (East Hartford )

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

WOW!! I think this would match my '57 Hotpoint washer and we all know how much I like matched pairs... of washers and dryers! Dammit that I am out of town at the moment, but this seems like a great deal!!

I wonder about it being a water dryer because those had the access port in the cylinder to clean out the outer tub. The lint was mostly carried away by the pump. The airflow dryers made by Hotpoint were very similar to the water dryers until the design change in the 60s with low airflow and higher temperatures than modern dryers.

I may be in California, but nothing is going to keep me from taking a run at this one.
I even told Hubby about it (at breakfast this morning) so he couldn't make a scene... LOL

Initial contact made - I don't have my phone with me (due to outrageous US roaming charges) but I sent the seller a text anyway. I'll follow that up with a call later.

Wish me luck!!

Good Luck Paul. May the Old Appliance Angels smile down on you. And lead you in the path of old appliance righteousness for ever and ever.

WOO-HOO!! Just spoke to the seller and it's all set! When I get back from Palm Springs, I'll need to plan a trip to New England!!

Jon, better lock up the booze and food if we do come visit... LOL

You know Tom, I think you're right.  I'm getting it backwards - if it has the drawer it would be a blower version.  If the front of the dryer has no drawer, it would have been a condensing model.

Ben

I think the condensing model was on the TOL version, and it requires 20 gallons of water so I'm sure Paul will prefer the vented model! Did the water-cooled condensing dryers worked with a closed circulating system or with a pump or did they need a floor drain?

I think this model is the air-flow model (like the early to mid-50s GE's, I beleive) - the fellow selling it mentioned in the ad and when I spoke to him that the dryer 'gets really hot'. Can't wait to get this one!!
