I temped for Betty Crocker for two weeks in 1990 or thereabouts. Added up marketing numbers for instant mashed potatoes. They sell best in the south, and on military bases. Please make a note of it.

I think I've told this story before (what else is new?), but when I worked for Betty, they were getting ready to launch an ODIOUS children's drink. It was SO sweet, and SO overpackaged (which used to be General Mills thing, but they've gotten much better) and they were always giving it to me (and I was always dumping it in the plants). I think the mashed potato thing was a ruse, and that I was really their Food & Drug administration test subject.

Love those cannisters and that Maid of Honor can opener, by the way. Did those old Frigidaires have a plug-in griddle, like the Hotpoints did?

The stove had a Can't Slide Griddle that goes over the Heatminder unit at the right front. Placed on the unit, it looks like a rectangle that has rounded top and bottom lines while the left and right sides are shorter and straignt and have the handles. It came with a perforated rack that could be used with the flat side down on bacon to cook it flat and crisp without turning. The rack could also go in the griddle pan right side up and the griddle could be a small broiler pan. The "Can't Slide" term came from three little pegs (not pigs) on the bottom that kept it centered on the 8 inch unit. I have seen one or two of these with the little pegs ground flat so that it would sit on another brand's 8 inch surface unit.
Did Greg add that rectangular "Custom Imperial" badge on the main oven door? The doors and handles are very much like those on my 1961. Beautiful range once you adapt to the thick elements. That just takes time and caution like with thick fog and other thick situations.
Gary, your Maytag DW is like my Maytag except mine is a convertible portable and has white front and cabinet. It is a real cleaning machine.

I wonder just how many 1958 Custom Imperial appliances they badged? I have never seen that on a range before so maybe it was the only year, but if the washer, dryer and range carried it, the other Custom Imperial appliances must have had it also; you think?
