A Kenmore question:
Stephen and I were doing a load in the 1960 Kenmore alphabet
and both the lint filter has stopped circulating and the machine won't drain. Both problems started at the same time so I'm guessing the same problem is the cause of both. Any ideas what this could be?
Thanks,
Les

Pump too.

It may be clogged or seized. Take off the service panel on the back, loosen but don't remove the motor mounting nuts to relieve tension on the belt, and turn the pump pulley by hand. It should turn easily, if not, the washer needs a new pump.

Pump, yes.....but could be the impellers have snapped loose, or spinning on the spindle, or cracked pulley.....but in any case, just as easy to replace with a new one...and all should be back to normal.....

I agree.....

Because the symptoms are really two separate functions and they both happened simultaneously, I can't think of anything else that could cause this problem in a 1960 model.

The recirculating lint filter is supplied water by a second 'half' of the pump, which other than the impeller operates more or less independently of the drain side of the pump. Water going to the lint side of the pump comes from a different part of the tub too, so if they both stopped simultaneously, I can think only a seized impeller would cause that.

Incidentally, if for some reason your machine has an original style metal pump, a one for one replacement is plastic, and required washers on the pump bolts to proper secure the new plastic bodied pump. If you have a metal pump, please let me know and we can be sure you have the proper bolts. This is important enough that when there were still a lot of metal pumps in service, FSP supplied washers with the replacement pumps.

If your machine needs a four port pump (sounds almost sure like it does since you can see the lint filter) you need replacement pump 350367. They are plentiful.

Thanks, everyone. We'll check out the pump to see if it's seized or not. Hopefully we can get to it this weekend. Gordon, thanks so much for the parts info and all.
