I found this on ebay, and since its not that far from me, I thought I'd go for it. I went and placed a $50 bid on it, but the reserve wasn't met yet. So I emailed the guy and asked him what his reserve was. this was the response I got from him. "Hi there! That would be an great saving. I quoted shipping for this heavy console for over 500 dlls to some places. My reserve is $700. But my cousin who passed away a year ago paid $2800 for it at an antique shop. Let me know. Im at your orders and thanks for bidding."
A little too much if you ask me. But still a nice peice.

Justin, I agree that it is a little too much;

I think it's a "lot" too much for a reserve for that piece.

His deceased cousin must have had a lot more money than sense
if he paid $2800 for it. I be surprised if the bidding makes
it to $300.

LOL...

Nice combo, but $700 reserve? It's cool, but no way. I am still pulling myself off the floor over his cousin paying $2800 for it. I guess it could happen...

No offense but I always thought C.M. was way overpriced for the quality anyway. Note this has a VM player, while the better quality combos had Garrard, Collaro, or something of better quality.

$700.00 reserve is way too much. Wonder if Mark has anything left in his warehouse that you might want. I know he has some really nice vintage consoles in there. Check him out. (lightedcontrols)

I had told him that I thought $700 was too much money and wished him well on selling the item. I just got this reply back. "I know. Its a lot ofo money, I had it apraised for $1200 wich I still think its a lot. Just rememberm this console is in perfect condition."

do you ever consider....

the manner in which a seller on ebay writes? by this i mean.....can the seller write a complete sentence? can he spell simple words correctly? can he communicate his thoughts accurately? if the seller did write........"Hi there! That would be an great saving. I quoted shipping for this heavy console for over 500 dlls to some places. My reserve is $700. But my cousin who passed away a year ago paid $2800 for it at an antique shop. Let me know. Im at your orders and thanks for bidding." and "I know. Its a lot ofo money, I had it apraised for $1200 wich I still think its a lot. Just rememberm this console is in perfect condition." ......than i couldn't and wouldn't trust anything this person might say. this person basically can't say anything.

heres a challenge...

can anyone, anywhere show me an ad for any tv, even the top of the line specail made for Howard hughes or the president that had that big of a price tag in 1961?

That guy needs to get real.

I agree. With a writing style like that one wonders if we are not dealing with a teenager.
This set has a B&W television receiver in it. Even if it was a color set it still wouldn't be worth the amount the seller is asking.

I agree, at this price this item will not sell.

Well........

Appraisals don't mean jack. It's amazing how some ebay sellers still rely on them. Also, in this day and age some adults still do not know how to spell or use syntax when writing.

I agree here, this guy is way over-priced and just fishing for a sucker. I also agree with rickr here too, C-M was always not quite up to the quality image they projected in their advertising of that time period. Man I see console TV's, good ones, out there for next to nothing, or nothing if you'll haul them away. And some still work OK.

Take care guys.

Oh yes, I took an old radio cabinet which didn't work, paid $15 for it, and restored it to a martini bar cabinet. Its in our living room. I've been planning to take an old console TV, one with a really nice console, and turning it into a nice bar cabinet. I think it would look really cool.

sdlee

I just looked at the listing again and must be missing
it if the original 1961 price is quoted.
IIRC a while back, some "The Price is Right" clips
were youtubed here. I don't recall the exact year,
but in one episode there was an RCA Color TV Entertainment
Center and I recall the correct price was at least 1K.
I think the Voice of Music Model 1000 , no tv , but
AM/FM radio and Reel to Reel Tape was $800+ ; first offered
in 1958.

Too Bad....

....That isn't in non-working condition, as a freebie or a cheapie. I've been looking for something like that to gut and put pull-out shelves in to hold a modern TV and stereo system.

frontaloadtomy...

My mistake. I thought he meant that his cousin paid the original price of 2800

Seems like the antiques dealer was of the same variety as the ebay seller and the cousin was the buyer the e bay seller is hoping to seek..or is that soak?

well the good news is that it appears he wont be getting his price from anyone here
