Hi there, I am looking at getting a 1962 Frigidaire imperial refrigerator off marketplace. However, it currently does not work. Last I had chatted with the current owner. They said the compressor wouldn’t come on at all and at that point it sounded like it could be a simple electrical issue rather than not cooling/ Freon issue.

However, and making plans to pick it up this weekend. They then offered this “Full transparency - I’ve tried messing with it a bit more to try and get it to run. I’ve replace the start relay and now the fans run and the compressor runs intermittently but it doesn’t get cold. If you still want it it’s yours 😅Some times the compressor runs right away when I plug it in. Most times it just hums or will start to run then stop and hum. I tested all the leads for the compressor tho and it has continuity. I suspect there’s a refrigerant leak and or no refrigerant but who knows” and “At one point I got the compressor to stay on and inlet it run for a few hours and it didn’t get cold so I unplugged it and haven’t been able to get it going again.”

Is anyone familiar enough with this refrigerator to be able to guide me as to whether this sounds like it’s still a fixable problem and or some thing more electrical in nature? Or is this truly requiring a new compressor or Freon? If the ladder case I assume I don’t have the skills or the tools to do this fix.
