1964 PINK Vintage Mid-Century Frigidaire Custom Imperial Flair Oven - $296

Not too often seen in pink and aqua ...wondering, did they offer pink up to the last model year? I think someone mentioned here, that the last years were the best.

This is a 1962-63 model, with this timer, it's an earlier production model as the later ones changed the background color for the 3 setting wheels for the timer from black to white and then the openings were made larger.

 

The last year for pink was 1965.

 

As for the which ones were the "better ones" well, it depends of what you define as being better!

I think the early models like this one were more simple and they are also more simple to repair. The later models had nice features but more complicated oven controls. I never owned a post-1963 model but I wish I had one of the late-production US-market "N" models.

Here in Canada, the Flair ranges were almost identical to the US versions in 1960-64 but the 1965 and later models were not... They kept being more simple and never had the motorized thermostats or the integrated vent hoods like the "N" models had.

PhilR - thanks for the details and insights to the differences. Personally, simpler to repair is a good thing!
When presented with a shell or lighter pink, I don't shy away from pinks. I thought this model, identified by Ben, was looking slim and cool in this color.

Ben - I was thinking of your link, too - thank you for that excellent resource ...I put it in a folder on my desktop.

If this was a 1963, and purchased 10-29-1964, were the 1964 models out and like a car this unit was the end of the 1963 run? Maybe someone has insight on this.

Did you have the info from the seller or did I miss something in the ad if it was sold in October of 1964?

That means that the 1965 "J" models were probably available by that time and this range could have been discounted.
And because of the timer, this is the first type of the 3 types that were used on the 1962-63 models. I have the original sales documents for my RCIB-645 and it was sold in April of 1962. That was a 1960-61 model but there are date codes from November and December of 1961 on it. Maybe the 1961 model was produced a bit longer in Canada or the 1962 model was introduced late. I know that the selling price for this 40" model was a lot more than $295. It was about $900 with the vent hood, base cabinet and rotisserie. Of course, that's in Canada and everything is/was more expensive here (and the Canadian dollar usually trades for less than a US dollar).

Just reading the photos

Hi PhilR - the receipt with the $295 price is in the photos, with the date. It's either a Sept or Oct purchase - I see both dates , top and bottom written down. The House of Frigidaire was the dealer, and appears to be in New York if you squint long enough at the address. LOL!
